Hi everyone,
we are currently finalizing the specifications for our windows, which standardly come with 2 mushroom-head locking pins. This is described as "burglar-resistant."
Would you generally keep the number of mushroom-head locking pins as is?
Would you increase the number by default, and if so, how many?
Or would you only upgrade the windows on the ground floor or those that are easily accessible?

Thank you very much!

And I don’t recall my father-in-law saying that you could save a lot if you left that out.

Well, P4A glazing currently costs online from about 100-150€ per square meter (about 9.3-14.0 sq ft) and up. With an average window area of around 20-25% of the living space in a new build of 140 square meters (about 1507 sq ft), that quickly adds up to at least 3,000€ extra. Other people invest that amount doing their entire garden work themselves.

Hmm, then it’s probably related to the time (2021) or possibly to my father-in-law’s connections. I paid about 388 EUR per square meter (around 36 USD per square foot) for the entire window. If there had been a 25-40% increase just for RC2 compared to RC2N, he probably would have told me.

The price premium has always been this high. RC2 doesn’t just mean laminated safety glass (which is significantly cheaper). For correct RC2 certification, at least a P4A glazing is required. And that has always been really expensive. You can’t tell by looking either, because this glazing isn’t stamped.

??? RC2N has standard glass, RC2 has safety glass.

I corrected my post. Last night was probably too late and this morning too early 😉

Hehe, no problem.
But your point about P4A is definitely correct. Maybe that’s where my misunderstanding lies. The offer always states RC2 “hardware only.” Still, I have laminated safety glass with a film, but possibly not P4A, so strictly speaking, I don’t actually have RC2 but rather something like RC2N Plus or similar.
At the time, it wasn’t primarily about burglary resistance for me, but more about protection from shards and soundproofing. And my father-in-law may have installed it accordingly.
