Hello everyone,

we are building a house and recently visited a bathroom showroom.
Since I received a consultation there, I would like to purchase the selected items from that place. However, the prices are so high that I am now looking for an alternative.
Does it make sense to buy the selected items from an online retailer and have them installed?
What would you recommend?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards.

Hello,

you need to keep in mind that the prices quoted by plumbing companies usually include installation as well as warranty and guarantee on proper functionality. This is not the case if you install the items yourself.

We had the plumbing fixtures installed directly by the plumbing company. However, we purchased the furniture from a furniture store. They also offered matching vanity cabinets for our washbasin, etc. We liked the furniture much better, and it cost only half as much compared to what the plumbing company offered us.

I have already written about this here before.

I just don’t know if I can find someone who really says, "just deliver the materials and I’ll handle the installation"...

I don’t think so, and if they do, they will definitely charge a premium for it. To be honest, I wouldn’t want to settle for the "dirty work" just because someone thinks they should buy online.

I’m happy to take responsibility for product liability myself and handle it independently. Proper installation is a basic requirement and something I would expect from any professional.

And in my opinion, that’s where the problem starts. If a flush valve leaks, is it the product or the installation?

"He would have to buy it online" sounds quite harsh! That’s why I’m saying I’m looking for a balanced mix…

Yes, healthy for you – but no one else.

Yeah, kind of, yes... but I had a bad experience once with kitchen appliances ordered online that I installed myself... never again.

The exact same products often cost almost half as much online (what a surprise 🙄 ).
With four bathrooms, for example, with mirrors from Keuco, this really hurts...

Jochen104 already explained why:

Siggi is absolutely right here:

How do you intend to take product liability on yourself?

My point is more to find a balance between a good price for the individual products and a fair payment for the professional.

That is usually the tradesman’s price that you find too expensive:
Toilet at the plumber: €200 (including installation, small parts, and warranty)
...compared to €100 at Reuter.
In addition, at Reuter you get some rubber seals, adapters, pipes, custom adjustments from an external plumber, common installation costs from the plumber, and the installation warranty. If you save €40 this way, that may seem great at first, but what if complications arise later? The plumber can blame the problem on the material. You might end up paying twice or having to assert your rights in court—if you are even right and others see it the same way...

Haha, I’d like to see a customer come to me and say I should have my prints made at lab xy. My work is tailored to z. For laypeople, everything always seems the same.
