Hello everyone,

we are building a house and recently visited a bathroom showroom.
Since I received a consultation there, I would like to purchase the selected items from that place. However, the prices are so high that I am now looking for an alternative.
Does it make sense to buy the selected items from an online retailer and have them installed?
What would you recommend?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards.

Only if you handle the fine installation yourself and the items bought online match the sanitary fixtures from the bathroom showroom. The differences— even if the product looks identical— are particularly noticeable with faucets. Try holding a faucet from a hardware store and one from a specialist dealer at the same time to see the difference.

If you buy the fixtures online, you will incur shipping costs, and the installers you hire— for example, your plumbing company— will add a surcharge since their pricing is based on a mixed calculation of materials plus labor. If one factor in this calculation is removed, it has to be compensated for elsewhere.

It must be said that, as long as you are reasonably handy, installing a washbasin, faucet, or toilet is really not rocket science.
A shower or bathtub is somewhat more complicated.

The fact is that exactly the same products cost almost half as much online (what a surprise :rolleyes 🙂.
With 4 bathrooms, for example with mirrors from Keuco, this really adds up...

We immediately ruled out mirrors as well, because they were prohibitively expensive at the bathroom showroom. For now, the one from the Swedish furniture store is enough.

Anything that can easily be replaced or installed by oneself, I would do personally. But for things like the bathtub, shower tray, or concealed fixtures, I would always have a professional handle it.

In the worst case, not having a contracting party you can hold responsible for warranty claims will surely hurt you more.
