ᐅ What to consider when choosing a mirrored cabinet and a vanity unit?

Hello,

we are looking for a mirrored cabinet that suits our needs.

What should we consider?

How wide should the mirrored cabinet be? As wide as the sink or wider?

How high should the mirrored cabinet be? We can only install the bottom edge of the mirrored cabinet at 150cm (59 inches) because we have a plinth at 120cm (47 inches) where the sink is mounted, and under the mirrored cabinet on the plinth there is still space to place items.

We have Laufen VAL 75 (bathroom) and Laufen Pro S 45 (toilet). A mirrored cabinet should be installed above both sinks.

Which vanity cabinet would you recommend? The vanity should definitely have a black handle or be handleless (push-to-close), as we have black faucets from Grohe.

So far, we have found the following brands:

Badselekt
Sanipa

The original Laufen does not have black handles.

How high should the medicine cabinet be? We can only install the bottom edge of the medicine cabinet at 150cm (59 inches) because we have a 120cm (47 inch) high base where the sink is mounted, and below the cabinet on this base, we can still place things.

How tall do you want your medicine cabinet to be? We have a built-up wall section 120cm (47 inches) high, with a 5cm (2 inch) gap above it, and then an 80cm (31 inch) tall cabinet on top. It shouldn’t be any taller than that; the top shelf is already at the upper reach for me at 1.80m (5 ft 11 in), especially since the sink projects the basin a bit away from the wall. We use the shelf between the built-up wall and the cabinet to store hairbrushes (two women and a metalhead 😉 ).
The sink is integrated into the vanity unit, and both are the same width.

@WilderSueden thanks

Yes, it’s a question of how much space there should be between the base cabinet and the bottom edge of the mirror cabinet.
I initially estimated it at 30cm (12 inches).
Would 20cm (8 inches) also be enough? It’s hard for me to imagine.

Let’s start with the width: should the mirror cabinet be the same width as the vanity unit, or slightly wider?

Take a look at some pictures of bathrooms with mirrored cabinets and decide which style you prefer. Usually, the cabinet is as wide as the base vanity unit. Sometimes it is narrower. Being wider doesn’t make sense, since you stand in front of the sink rather than beside it when using it.

@Benutzer123 I have already read everything

1. Smaller (wouldn't make any sense to me at all)

2. The same size, probably the most commonly chosen option

3. Larger but not too large; larger should make the room feel bigger in the end.

But what exactly does "too large" mean? 5, 10, 15, or 20cm (2, 4, 6, or 8 inches) larger on each side?

What do you want to put underneath? 20cm (8 inches) is quite tight just for a toothbrush or a deodorant. Larger cans like hairspray, etc., won’t fit there.
Also, keep in mind that you need a bit more space than the height of your items.

The bottom edge of the mirror cabinet should probably also be adjusted based on the user’s height. At 150 cm (59 inches), it would be a bit high for me, even though I am 180 cm (71 inches) tall. You can barely see your face at that height.

I would probably start the mirror cabinet at the height of the wall cladding, around 120 cm (47 inches), or I would have planned an integrated cabinet right from the start.
