Hello
How does it work with corner joints on solid wood countertops, can they also be routed?
In a sample kitchen at IKEA, the corner joint was assembled with screws without routing, but I forgot to ask at the time why. Could it be that solid wood countertops are too hard to route?
What about the Akerby countertop? It only has a 3.5mm (0.14 inch) solid wood layer on top, can it be routed?

Hi,

You can mill a tongue-and-groove joint into a wooden panel. However, at Ikea, you can only order this custom-made. Delivery time is 5-6 weeks, possibly longer around Christmas. The display probably only showed standard panels, so there was no milling, just butt-jointed edges. That’s the more affordable option.

Thank you, I’m not referring to tongue and groove milling, but rather milling a rounded edge at the joint so that the rounded edge of the countertop is not visible at the seam.
Does Ikea do something like this with solid wood countertops as well?

Hi,

this is what a tongue-and-groove joint looks like on Ikea Personlig worktops when they are custom cut. The standard worktops are not cut to size by Ikea. Numerär worktops are butted together with a straight edge, and for Prägel worktops there is a cover strip called Fixa.
