Hello everyone,
I have noticed that the drawers in my IKEA Metod kitchen do not close as smoothly and softly as I would like. Specifically, sometimes they slam shut or require extra force to close. This is especially annoying with daily use and reduces the overall user experience.
My question is: Are there any proven methods, adjustments, or perhaps accessories that can help fine-tune the Metod drawers to close very gently and quietly? I’m not only referring to the standard soft-close function but also to tips regarding installation, rail adjustment, or material maintenance that could positively affect smooth closing.
I would appreciate any helpful advice, experiences, or recommendations.

I am not only referring to the usual "soft-close" function here but also to tips on installation, adjustment of the rails, and material maintenanceThe most important aspect is correct installation. 1. The rails must be parallel and precisely aligned. 2. Remove any dirt. 3. If noises or sticking occur, use silicone spray. 4. Check the soft-close function with built-in damper and adjust if necessary.
Hello,
I would like to share a few tips that helped me achieve smooth and gentle closing of my Metod drawers:
- Cleaning: Remove crumbs and dust, especially from the drawer slides.
- Lubrication: Use sprays specifically designed for plastic rollers or metal tracks, such as silicone spray.
- Adjustment: The drawer fronts must be properly aligned. IKEA provides adjustment options at the mounting points.
- Load: Do not overload drawers, as excessive weight can affect the soft-closing mechanism.
Most importantly, I found regular inspection and, if necessary, readjustment of the drawer slides at intervals of about one year to be crucial.

I wonder if IKEA might be applying too tight tolerances with Metod, so that small alignment errors become noticeable right away. That is actually a good point. While IKEA manufactures cost-effectively, the drawer slides from Blum (used in Metod) have relatively strict quality standards, which are generally considered good.
What often happens, however, is that self-installation leads to measurement and alignment errors that negatively affect the soft-close function.
My advice is to follow the installation instructions very carefully and check the fronts multiple times. Some users overlook the correct installation of the rear mounting points, which can cause friction or misalignment.
