Hello,

At my house, which is currently under construction, there is a large window section on one side measuring approximately 3.30 meters (11 feet) wide and 5.50 meters (18 feet) high (according to the plans, see photo).

According to the thermal insulation requirements, some type of sun protection or privacy screen must be installed here as well. On the inside, there is no ceiling because it is a large gallery area. Do you have any suggestions on what kind of sun protection could be installed there? Roller shutters would be too large for the total area, a venetian blind would be too unstable and also too large in area? Zip screens could develop mold in damp conditions? I already thank you in advance.

Best regards

You need to install external venetian blinds; otherwise, your house will become like an oven in summer, and in winter, you can keep the windows open when the sun is shining. External venetian blinds are technically no problem, but I hope you have the necessary funds available for them.

Oh, an ultra-ugly bunker. Just put iron slats in front of it, that will emphasize the World War II look.

But only if a central guide rail is also planned. Then you have two spans of 1.60m (5 feet 3 inches) each, which is no problem for external venetian blinds at all. However, the top cassette will be quite large! Standard external venetian blinds from company War... go up to 5.00m (16 feet 5 inches) in height and already have a 37cm (14.5 inches) deep cassette on them.

What is the vertically hatched area above the window lintel supposed to represent?

First of all, thanks for your helpful and friendly comments (with one exception). The window wall is so large because there is a very big gallery inside, and naturally, you want to look outside, not at a wall or ceiling. A large external Venetian blind would probably be too vulnerable in windy conditions. Two installed one above the other would be difficult to “hide,” I think. All the other windows will have roller shutters, but for this large one, it’s simply too high. A fabric screen would be the solution, but I’m concerned about mold issues. Has anyone had experience with that? The other alternative is solar control glazing combined with interior shading. By the way, the house already looks really good, but of course, that’s a matter of personal taste. Thanks.

The vertically hatched area represents the cladding of the roof/roof overhang. Behind it, there would even be space for fascia boxes.
