Hello everyone,

Our notary appointment is set, and I received the measurements of the plot yesterday.

My husband and I each prefer a different house type.

He favors a townhouse-style villa, while I prefer a gable roof with an elevated knee wall.

I’m attaching the measurements and the development plan, and I would appreciate your opinions on which house type would make the most sense, especially regarding the size, so that there is still a nice garden left.

Next Monday and Friday, we have two appointments with general contractors recommended by our circle of friends.

I want to be well prepared for the meetings, so nothing is “pushed” on me, and above all, to approach this process with realistic expectations!

I’m really looking forward to your recommendations!

Thank you

By the way, I also find it helpful to leave "completed" threads available – the participants visible as contributors in a forum are always just the tip of the iceberg, meaning every story benefits many more silent readers. Much of what is said applies not only to the individual case.

The thread itself can and should remain. Especially as a "negative" example of how one can get stuck in a way of thinking and not realize that the partner does not share the enthusiasm.

I only want the attachments removed, as they show addresses and similar information.

Now everyone is probably wondering what exactly is lacking in the existing home and whether a renovation might be a good alternative?

A renovation is not necessary.

What really frustrates me are things like the neighbor building a massive garage right up against the property line, which completely blocked my view out of the kitchen window to the west.

Or how the neighbor’s dogs constantly leave their “waste” on our property, which they then dispose of in their trash bins, but it still causes a smell of decay out on our terrace.

Or those who always park so close to the driveway that I have to maneuver around 10 times just to park in my own designated parking space on my property.

Probably the everyday madness everyone knows all too well...

Well, I’ve just admitted it, and I’m sure everyone is shaking their heads right now...

Oh, I see. So, basically the main idea is: "new plot, new luck."

Some people only have a dog because they don’t dare to mess up their neighbor’s driveway themselves. But running away won’t help; only being firm will.

The basic idea was: new plot = new house according to your own ideas + "fewer" problems.

I got so caught up in the vision of the house built to my own specifications that I didn’t notice some other problems.

But in the end, it all worked out fine.

Everyone is allowed and able to change their opinions.
I appreciate that you honestly shared your reasons with us—many others disappear here without a word.
Your minor issues are also discussed here: I would encourage you to bring them up for discussion. But regarding the "problems" you mentioned, I can only say:

That can happen to you on any purchased plot of land. Or there may be other issues you are not thinking of now because you don’t have them.
It's like switching partners: in the end, there are always drawbacks—whether one thing is better or worse usually cannot be clearly said.

My main motivation was to build a detached house according to my own wishes.

Well, then I invite you to unleash your planning enthusiasm in the floor plan discussions.

The same could happen to you on the plot you bought. Or there could be other issues.

I have to admit, I briefly considered giving up and walking away—it would be the easiest option.

However, several people took the time to write responses and think things through with me, so I find it only fair to provide some closure.

My husband said the same—that a different plot could bring different problems.
