Hello everyone,

Does anyone have ideas or personal experience with a driveway from a village road onto a property? The land is about 1–2 meters (3–6 feet) higher than the road, and we are not sure how to plan this best without losing too much space. After the incline, the driveway is completely flat. The width is about 20 meters (65 feet) and the length 30 meters (98 feet). I will attach a picture directly.

Thanks in advance

As steep as possible. Another option would be a lift, since climbing stairs is unfortunately difficult for vehicles.

The issue comes before the space question: how to achieve this most cost-effectively.
You have already posted about your tight budget — now you are adding a difficult plot.
Is your father/grandfather/uncle not an architect? What does he say about it?

Yes, exactly, my grandfather. But I haven’t asked him yet because he lives far away, and we won’t see each other until at least November. I just wanted to write here to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and to get some inspiration. Where do you see the big problem? Of course, if you make the driveway flat, there is a lot of earthwork involved, but I actually think it’s better that the house isn’t exactly at street level.

Find out how much it will cost you to dispose of excavation material in your area and according to the existing soil classification.

Earthworks are the most unpredictable cost item in house construction and, compared to other tasks, often feel like the most expensive. Additionally, soil must not only be excavated but also disposed of. You can quickly end up paying €5000 or more for 1000 cubic meters (about 1300 cubic yards), plus transportation costs. For a typical house excavation with a 100 square meter (1076 square feet) footprint, you’re usually dealing with around this volume. So the costs add up significantly here.

If the development plan states that you must place a parking space or garage 5 meters (16 feet) away from the road, roughly several thousand cubic meters (cubic yards) of soil will need to be removed. Keep in mind: soil piled loosely on a truck takes up more volume than soil in its natural state.

Then you have a parking spot at street level or with a slight slope, but you are still not at the height of the house. This means paving and steps leading up to the house.

And then the expensive retaining of your parking area with L-shaped concrete blocks (L-steel) to the higher elevated property.

This will definitely not be a cheap walk in the park.
