Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!
That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...
Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...
The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.
After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.
The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

This is not a show kitchen like many other houses might have, but a workspace that we personally really like.
And seriously: what other options are there in a terraced house? And okay—sorry—the obligatory Bora extractor and kitchen island are missing—they can only be ugly anyway.

Fummelbrett!29 May 2020 09:54I think the kitchen looks nice. Of course, having the refrigerator stick out a bit isn’t the most visually appealing; a smooth surface would look better. However, that would also waste valuable space—space that is actually quite usable. I imagine you can work really well in this kitchen—there’s plenty of countertop space, it feels nice and bright, there’s storage available, and I especially like the “organized chaos” with the planning wall.
Honestly, I’ve seen quite a few kitchens, and this is one of the few I could really relate to. But as with many things, it’s great that everyone has their own kitchen and (hopefully!) sets it up according to their own wishes and needs. In any case, I’m happy for @goalkeeper—enjoy and best of luck with the new kitchen!

I personally really like the organizer wall, but I do not like the side-by-side refrigerator at all. However, this was the explicit wish of the homeowners and kitchen owners, so that’s how it is. Otherwise, I think the kitchen turned out quite well given the space available.
