ᐅ KALLAX attached to the wall but still wobbly – does anyone else experience this?

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a KALLAX shelf unit and installed it on the wall according to the instructions. Despite screwing it in, the shelf still feels noticeably wobbly, especially when handling it or loading individual compartments heavily. The wall is made of solid brick, and the screws and wall plugs seem appropriate. However, the overall stability is not really satisfactory.
Does anyone else experience this? I wonder if this might be a common issue with KALLAX or if I made a mistake during installation. I attached the metal brackets as instructed, but maybe an additional reinforcement or a trick for a secure fix is needed?
I would really appreciate any tips, experiences, or advice to help me firmly and safely secure the shelf to the wall without it wobbling.

That sounds really frustrating when a shelf wobbles despite being fixed to the wall. I had a similar issue with a shelf myself.
Maybe it helps to align the shelf completely before attaching it, using a spirit level and a square, and to carefully check the wall. In my case, the shelf wobbled due to a slight unevenness.
When you then insert the screws, small gaps can form that allow some movement later on.
Perhaps try gently tightening all the fixing points again and, if needed, use small washers to distribute the pressure more evenly.
I hope you manage to get it under control!

The stability of a KALLAX shelf when mounted on the wall primarily depends on choosing the appropriate anchors. For solid masonry, I recommend metal anchors (e.g., expansion anchors) instead of plastic anchors.
Fixing the shelf at only one row of attachment points at the top is usually not sufficient, as the KALLAX has relatively narrow side panels that do not handle lateral loads well. It is advisable to install fixing points on at least two levels—for example, at the top and in the middle or on the sides.
Additionally, securing the back panel of the shelf in several places is recommended. This increases its resistance to tipping. Without proper load distribution or appropriate reinforcement of the back panel, it might remain unstable as you described, even when attached to the wall.
Please also check that the screws used for wall attachment are compatible with the anchors in terms of length, diameter, and material.

The shelf is attached to the wall at the top rail with two metal bracketsThanks for the addition! Securing the top is always the first step, but make sure to also add two support points.

Where exactly did you place the brackets? Only at the bottom or on the sides?I fixed small brackets on the back of the upper side on both ends, basically acting like hinges behind the shelf. The lower corners are also secured to the wall with brackets, so the shelf no longer has any movement. Together, these create leverage forces that better distribute the load on the wall material and the screws.
In addition, I drilled long screws through the back panel directly into the wall (be careful depending on the wall type!). This significantly reduces any wobbling.
Even though this isn’t mentioned in the instructions, it’s a sturdy method I always recommend for heavy loads.

That sounds interesting, where exactly did you attach the brackets?I attached them on the lower sides, basically at the front edges of the KALLAX side panels that are against the wall. It works great because the load can no longer swing freely there.
Kind of like a seatbelt for the wall 🙂
This way, the shelves stay firmly in place even when handling them, and they no longer feel wobbly.

I installed them on the lower sideThat was exactly the trick for me! 🙂 At first, I wondered, “What for?”, but it really makes a difference. And it makes the shelf feel much sturdier overall.
