Hello everyone, I recently assembled a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA, but I noticed that the shelf feels quite unstable after assembly. Although all screws and dowels are properly installed, the shelf noticeably wobbles when lightly bumped. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if I might have made a mistake during assembly.
Are there any specific tips or tricks to improve the stability of the KALLAX without having to alter the entire structure? I’m particularly interested in whether there are ways to secure the shelf to the floor or the wall, or if adding additional braces would be helpful.

That’s true; wall mounting provides stability. However, sometimes it’s not feasible, for example in rental apartments. In such cases, you can also reinforce furniture internally using glued brackets or metal profiles.
Patience and understanding that furniture always involves compromises also help.

Yes, as far as I could tell, I used all the brackets and attached the back panel completely.
I placed the shelf on a floor with minimal unevenness, but I held the spirit level next to it, and the shelf appears to be mostly level.
I think I will try wall mounting and also follow the idea of adding additional wooden strips for reinforcement.
Are there any other recommendations to increase the load capacity for books or heavy decorations? For example, special screws or fastening methods?

Why not just buy something solid right away? Constantly tinkering with inexpensive shelving units to make them stable takes time and patience. The KALLAX might look nice, but what’s the point if it wobbles before you even fully load it?
