ᐅ KALLAX is uneven after carpet installation – how to level it?

Hello everyone, I need your advice: I bought a KALLAX shelf from IKEA and assembled it right after laying the carpet in the living room. Unfortunately, the shelf is now uneven and wobbles slightly when touched, which is probably due to the uneven floor. I suspect that the new carpet is thicker, causing the KALLAX to no longer sit level. My question is: How can I stabilize and permanently level the shelf without too much DIY or unsightly fixings? Are there proven solutions to compensate for small unevenness or height differences in the floor, both visually and functionally? I want the shelf to be secure and straight so that both the appearance and stability are right. Thank you!

I am very familiar with this problem! After installing the carpet, my shelf was also uneven, and it really annoyed me at first. I initially experimented with small wooden wedges that I cut myself and secured with double-sided tape. That worked fairly well, but over time the tape partially came loose, causing the shelf to wobble again.

Later, I switched to adjustable furniture feet and simply screwed them underneath. The installation was straightforward, and if I want to move the shelf, I can remove the feet without leaving significant marks. It’s important to check the carpet to make sure it isn’t too thick or soft at that spot so the feet can stand firmly. 🙂

Hi, I can really understand your frustration :-) The KALLAX is definitely a classic, but it tends to be a bit uneven on carpet – many people here know that.

My favorite solution is adjustable furniture feet – very practical and flexible. But if you don’t want to get out any tools, felt pads combined with some tape make a nice temporary fix that also protects the floor.

Or just get creative: I once used cork coasters placed under the feet. They’re non-slip, provide some cushioning, and even look quite good.

Good luck, you’ll get it sorted! 🙂
