ᐅ Is there any special tool required for assembling the IKEA Metod kitchen system?

JANSANHello everyone,
I am currently working on assembling the Ikea Metod kitchen series and was wondering if there are any special tools that significantly simplify the assembly or installation.
The Ikea instructions are quite clear, but I am curious if there are any specially designed tools developed specifically for the Metod components to help install dowels, screws, or fasteners more efficiently or quickly, or if standard tools are generally sufficient.
Does anyone have experience or recommendations for special bit sets, drill attachments, or assembly aids tailored specifically for Ikea Metod? Tips beyond the usual cordless drill and screwdriver set would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your insights!

There is no special tool from Ikea designed exclusively for Metod.
A cordless drill with the appropriate bits, a Phillips and flathead screwdriver, as well as a drill for dowel holes are more than sufficient.
For easier work, you can use a ratcheting screwdriver, which reduces the effort needed.

The question about specialized tools for assembling Ikea Metod cabinets is very interesting and deserves a detailed look. Basically, the assembly is designed to be done with standard tools since Ikea targets a wide customer base and does not want to require specialized equipment.
- For the dowels, Ikea normally uses wooden or metal dowels that can be installed with a common 8 mm (5/16 inch) drill bit. There is no need for special drilling tools here.
- The fasteners such as cam locks, dowel pins, and screws are optimized for assembly using standard hex keys (Allen keys) and Phillips screwdriver bits.
- A cordless drill with adjustable torque is recommended to fasten screws securely without over-tightening.
Still, in practice, people often use small helpers that are not from Ikea but are extremely practical, for example:
- A square guide or a small assembly jig to ensure a perfect 90-degree angle when joining the cabinets.
- A bit set with high-quality bits that don’t strip.
- A drilling template can be helpful when preparing several nearly identical cabinets.
One thing that is often overlooked is using a rubber mallet to gently join parts without damaging the surfaces.
I am wondering, though, how extensive your kitchen is. Are you working on a single unit or an entire kitchen? Depending on the scope, using certain aids can be more or less worthwhile.

To get straight to the point: There are no tools specifically designed by Ikea for the Metod series. Instead, compatibility with standard tools is relied upon.
For efficient assembly, a set of high-quality 5 mm (0.2 inch) hex bits (for cam locks) and a cordless screwdriver with torque control are recommended.
In addition, simple aids such as clamps for securing parts during assembly or a spirit level set are helpful.
The benefit of specialized tools is limited here because the design is intended for regional availability and straightforward assembly.
