I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea Metod kitchen and wanted to gather information in advance about which tools I should have ready. I am interested both in the basic set of hand tools that are really necessary and in any special tools that can make the assembly significantly easier or more precise. Additionally, it would be helpful to know if there are any particularities during the installation of the Metod components that require specific tools.
My main goal is to avoid unpleasant surprises during the work and to be able to work efficiently. Who has experience with this? Which tools have proven useful? I look forward to your tips and advice on how to best prepare for the assembly – and, of course, any mistakes to avoid.

Hello,
I would like to add that, besides a cordless screwdriver, cordless drills with the appropriate bit are especially useful, as many screws are driven directly into pre-drilled holes. For Metod kitchens, Torx bits (usually T20) are standard, since many connections use Lamello or cam lock systems.
Additionally, I recommend a precision spirit level to align the base cabinets accurately. With the Metod series in particular, correct alignment is crucial for the later installation of countertops and fronts.
During preparation, it can be helpful to sort all screws and small parts by package and module in advance, which makes accessing them much easier later on.

Wow, now I’m really excited about the assembly! 😊 I would also add a square tool for marking, which is very helpful when it comes to fitting the cabinets precisely against the wall.
The first time, I was amazed at how much easier it was with a good set of bits and a reliable cordless drill. It’s really enjoyable to carry it out so well organized! 👍

A structured approach makes the assembly much easier. Here is a short list of tools that I recommend:
- Cordless screwdriver with Torx T20 and Phillips bits
- Spirit level (at least 60 cm (24 inches) long)
- Tape measure (at least 5 m (16 feet))
- Rubber mallet
- Utility knife
- Interior and exterior angles for alignment
- Setting clamp or tension strap for fixing modules (sometimes very helpful)
Common mistakes often include under-tightening screws, which leads to unstable cabinets. I recommend tightening the screws firmly but not over-tightening, so everything stays solid.
Special note: For the Metod series, the holes for hinges and connections are already pre-drilled, so it is usually sufficient to use the recommended screws. Still, a cordless screwdriver with torque control is beneficial to avoid damaging the wood.
