Hello everyone, I have a question and hope that someone with experience in furniture cleaning can help: Is there an official or generally accepted cleaning guide for the Ikea Metod kitchen fronts?

I own several Metod fronts with a glossy finish, and I want to clean them as gently and effectively as possible without damaging the surface. What cleaning agents are suitable for this? Is a damp microfiber cloth enough, or should special cleaning products be used?

I would appreciate tips on dos and don’ts, preferred cleaning practices, or common mistakes to avoid when caring for these fronts. I want to maintain and care for my fronts in the best possible way for the long term. Thanks in advance!

Hello Lomasin, great question! I love my Metod kitchen and sometimes I also think about how to properly care for the fronts.

A little tip: don’t panic if a small accident happens! 😊

I usually clean the fronts with water and a few drops of dish soap, and occasionally use a microfiber cloth that’s not too wet.

The important thing is to always be gentle and avoid excessive rubbing. This way, the kitchen stays in great condition and looks fantastic. Keep it up—it’s worth cleaning thoroughly and carefully!

To clarify any misunderstanding: There is no official detailed cleaning guide specifically for Metod fronts published by Ikea. The general recommendation is:
- Avoid harsh cleaners and solvents
- Use mild cleaning agents and soft cloths

For high-gloss fronts, abrasive substances should be avoided as they can cause micro-scratches that negatively affect the appearance.

There is no systematic instruction with specific products, so caution and personal testing with safe cleaning agents is advisable.

Nevertheless, regular gentle cleaning with a damp cloth is recommended as the standard.

I can only confirm that! Recently, I accidentally used a coarse cloth and immediately noticed small scratches – it was frustrating!

Since then, I have been very careful to only use soft microfiber cloths and mild cleaning agents.

So it’s better to start with gentler products; that way, your kitchen will stay looking great for a long time.

I find the discussion here really helpful, thanks to everyone!

At the moment, I’m a bit concerned because my white Metod fronts are already several years old, and I’m afraid that using the wrong cleaning products might discolor or damage the surface.

Can anyone tell me if vinegar and water solutions are safe for white fronts? Or is there a difference?

Sometimes you feel a bit uncertain when you don’t know exactly what will happen, especially when cleaning beloved furniture.
