Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to install new Metod drawers from Ikea and want to ensure that the drawers operate both very smoothly and as quietly as possible. Since I want to improve not only comfort but also durability, I am especially interested in how to achieve the best results during installation.
Are there any specific tips or tricks during assembly that help the drawers close more smoothly and quietly?
I would also appreciate advice on any additional parts or adjustment options that Ikea may not detail in their standard instructions.
I have already looked at the common guides, but maybe someone here has practical, proven tips that make a difference. Thanks in advance!

I’m still wondering: Which drawer size are you planning to install? The shallow or the deep ones? Thanks for the detailed reply! I’m using the deep Metod drawers, mainly for base kitchen cabinets. The weight and load will therefore be somewhat higher.

That’s actually crucial because the deep models have to be adjusted even more precisely due to their weight. That’s exactly why I’m also asking for details on the proper alignment and possible adjustment tips. Especially since the soft-close feature in these deep models contributes not only to comfort but also protects the drawer components.
So far, I have mainly ensured that the drawer runners are installed cleanly, but have not tried any specific adjustment techniques yet.
Are there any recommendations on whether the runners can be readjusted after installation, or does everything need to fit perfectly from the start?
Also, how about wear and tear from frequent opening? Are there parts that should be proactively lubricated or maintained?
For the correct installation and optimal operation of the deep Ikea Metod drawers, I recommend the following points:
- The rails must be mounted exactly parallel and at the same height; deviations greater than 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 inches) cause increased friction.
- Before inserting the drawer, check the rail guides; the moving parts should operate smoothly without resistance.
- The damping elements at the ends of the rails must be properly engaged to ensure gentle slowing when closing.
- Depending on how frequently they are used, occasional cleaning of the rails is advisable; a dry cloth is sufficient for this.
- Lubrication is usually not necessary for Ikea Metod rails, but if they run very dry, a small amount of silicone grease can be applied; avoid oily substances.
- After installation, the drawers can usually be slightly adjusted using small setting screws, allowing for optimal alignment.
An early adjustment after the first installation is recommended to compensate for any settling; afterward, the drawer should remain smoothly operable as long as no mechanical damage occurs.
The weight of the deep drawers requires precise work, as irregularities can quickly lead to functional problems.
