Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install new Metod drawers from Ikea and want to ensure that the drawers operate both very smoothly and as quietly as possible. Since I want to improve not only comfort but also durability, I am especially interested in how to achieve the best results during installation.

Are there any specific tips or tricks during assembly that help the drawers close more smoothly and quietly?

I would also appreciate advice on any additional parts or adjustment options that Ikea may not detail in their standard instructions.

I have already looked at the common guides, but maybe someone here has practical, proven tips that make a difference. Thanks in advance!

Hello jetar51,

it’s great that you are taking a detailed approach to this topic – especially with Ikea Metod drawers, a bit of precision really pays off to get the full functionality.

First, it is extremely important to install the drawer slides perfectly level and parallel. Even a slight misalignment can significantly affect the smoothness of operation and the soft-close system. I recommend using a spirit level during installation and, if necessary, small spacers to adjust.

Second, the damping elements (“soft-close”) are delicate components. They must not be damaged by snapping the drawer shut too quickly or blocked due to incorrect installation. Make sure the drawer box fits precisely into the slides and that the dampers engage at the correct point.

Third, a small but often underestimated detail: the screws used must always be tightened firmly but not overtightened – this requires some sensitivity. If screwed too tightly, the material can warp, causing increased friction when sliding.

One more thing: when positioning the drawer slides, be sure to check that the designated drill holes are cleanly made. Any inaccuracies here will cause friction or prevent smooth movement.

I’m also curious: which drawer size are you planning to install? Are they the shallow or the deep ones? This can affect installation slightly, especially regarding the type of damping.

I look forward to your reply and can then address specific details more precisely.

Hi jetar51,

for very smooth and quiet Metod drawers, you should primarily make sure the drawer slides are properly aligned and all mounting points are used correctly.

Additionally, occasionally applying a little silicone oil to the slides helps improve the running smoothness without much effort.

Yes, that’s really important! If the dampers don’t engage properly, the drawer just slams shut 😅.

I also recommend smoothing the runners before installation—a little lubrication works wonders here. Not complicated, but it feels great!

And when installing: don’t rush. Take your time, step by step, and everything will slide smoothly in the end. Oh, and having a bit of fun with the screws helps too 😂.

Hey jetar51!

I think it’s great that you’re putting so much effort into the installation! With my own Metod drawers, taking the time to work carefully and precisely made a huge difference.

One tip: After installing the drawer slides, open and close them fully a few times to immediately notice if there’s any resistance anywhere.

It’s always worth readjusting rather than staying unhappy with the result. In the end, it will feel almost like new! Good luck, you’ve got this!

Hello jetar51,

to install the Ikea Metod drawers so that they slide smoothly and close softly, you should keep the following in mind:

- The drawer slides must be mounted perfectly parallel and level.
- The drawer boxes should be well assembled; do not use warped parts.
- Check that the soft-close mechanisms are clean and undamaged.
- During installation, I recommend loosely attaching the slides at first and testing the fit before tightening everything fully.

I’m still wondering: What drawer size do you plan to install? Are they the shallow ones or the deep ones?

This is actually crucial because the deeper models require more precise adjustment due to their weight in order to glide smoothly.

If you provide the dimensions, I’d be happy to give you further tips for precise adjustment.
