ᐅ Installing a Built-in Dishwasher Externally

Hello IKEA fans,

after struggling for a while with the IKEA kitchen planner, I am currently facing an issue with installing the dishwasher. Due to the connection requirements, I would need to place the dishwasher (medium size 45cm (18 inches)) all the way to the left at the outer edge, which is problematic because the countertop underneath would lack support and there would also be no paneling on the outer side. Unfortunately, there isn’t even 20cm (8 inches) of space to the left up to the edge, so I can’t install a 20cm (8 inches) base cabinet as a finishing element there.

Would anyone have an idea how I could add a supporting finish there (with a normal, single-colored panel, so no glossy end panels)?
Apparently, cabinets in 45cm (18 inches) width don’t exist; otherwise, I would have tried to install the dishwasher in one, although that probably wouldn’t have been ideal either.

Hello, we are in almost the same situation.

Currently, the plan is to install 2x UTBY legs and then cover them from the side and front.

That could be an option, but I’m concerned it might be a bit unstable. What do you plan to use for cladding this? Are you going to buy another cabinet box and then cut its exterior panels to the right size?

usually a side panel or a section of the countertop is used as a support panel. A solution with UTBY is also not bad and could simplify installation. However, keep in mind that 1. the upper mounting plate would need to be cut down, otherwise it would protrude or the countertop would overhang, causing a gap between the countertop and the cover panel, 2. UTBY would be visible between the cover panel and the dishwasher, or UTBY would also need to be covered on the front.

The side panels are also available in a matte finish (e.g., Förbättra side panel, Veddinge side panel).
