Hello dear community!

We want to order an IKEA kitchen for the first time because we have been very satisfied with our previous IKEA furniture. However, we do not plan to replace our existing freestanding refrigeration units; instead, we thought about placing them inside the IKEA built-in cabinets. We don’t know how thick the side panels of the Metod system are and what the interior dimensions would be. The appliances have the following dimensions:

Freezer: W 55.3cm (22 inches) x H 84.5cm (33 inches) x D 57.4cm (23 inches) to fit into ME 718
Refrigerator: W 54.0cm (21 inches) x H 144.0cm (57 inches) x D 59.5cm (23 inches) to fit into ME 721

Would they fit inside?

Also important:
a) Are the back panels made of fiberboard?
b) Are the door hinges overlay or inset?
c) How tall is the upper door on the ME 721 (it looks like about 80cm (31 inches))?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello,
the side panels are 18 mm (0.7 inches) thick.

The refrigerator does not fit into the ME721. You would need a cabinet with a 160 cm (63 inches) high door, which is not available. The only option is the ME722 180 cm (71 inches) x 40 cm (16 inches). This means there is about 30 cm (12 inches) of space left inside the cabinet, accessible only when the refrigerator door is opened.

a) Yes, HDF
b) Overlay.

You can skip emailing customer service, as you won’t get a useful answer to that question.

The IKEA appliances are sized to fit properly. METOD already consists of many more components than Faktum. The more parts you need to keep in stock, the more expensive it gets.

a) If the door ends at 139 cm (55 inches), then you still need to add the 18 mm (0.7 inches) thickness of the cabinet bottom, so the total comes to about 141 cm (56 inches), which is 1 cm (0.4 inches) too long. The ME numbers are just compilations of basic elements because many people would find it overwhelming to assemble everything individually. These cabinets do exist, and then shelves, doors, hinges, etc. are added.

I can’t say whether a doweled front made of two 80 cm (31 inches) tall doors would be stable enough. If that’s considered, it’s best to leave the work to a professional cabinetmaker. They should also be able to confirm if the stability is sufficient.

b) The METOD kitchen cabinets are deeper than any others on the market. Therefore, the depth should always be sufficient. The manufacturers of built-in appliances usually also provide niche dimensions.

Wishing you a nice sunny Sunday as well. Which refrigerator model is it specifically? That might make it a bit easier.

This is a freestanding unit and is not designed for built-in installation.
