Jefferso5011 Feb 2020 09:37Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my first own kitchen using the Ikea Metod series and wondering how beginner-friendly the assembly of the kitchen furniture really is. Are there any specific tips or tricks that could especially help newcomers to assemble the cabinets, fronts, and accessories correctly and without major issues? I am particularly interested in how detailed the instructions are and whether professional tools are absolutely necessary or if simpler DIY tools will suffice. I would also like to know how much time one should realistically plan for assembling the individual components if you have no prior experience with kitchen installation. Perhaps some of you have good experiences or practical advice that could make starting with Ikea Metod easier? Thanks in advance!

Hello Jefferso50,
Your question is very clear, and from my experience, the Ikea Metod series is manageable even for beginners. Although the assembly instructions are quite detailed, the well-structured step-by-step explanations make the process much easier. It is important to take enough time at the start and to sort all the parts carefully.
In terms of tools, a cordless drill with bits, a screwdriver, possibly a hammer, and a spirit level are usually sufficient. You can generally do without expensive specialized tools. When assembling the cabinets, pay close attention to the drill holes and avoid tightening the screws too quickly, as you may need to adjust their position slightly.
For a beginner kitchen with 4-5 cabinets, plan for about a full day, depending on your focus and whether you have helpers. I recommend working logically from the bottom up and allowing some patience for the fronts, as these can often be a bit tricky. I hope this helps you so far!

Hi Jefferso50,
I can only agree with dunitan, the Metod kitchen from Ikea is actually quite beginner-friendly. Of course, at first it can all feel a bit overwhelming, but with some patience and a sense of humor, it works out really well. 😊
The trick is not to try to do everything at once and to take breaks in between. Also, it’s a good idea to gradually create a checklist of what has already been assembled and what still needs to be done.
For assembly, you definitely need a Phillips screwdriver and a cordless drill – Ikea should recommend both, but you can also do it by hand, it just takes longer. A little tip from me: get a good spirit level from the hardware store, it will make the whole kitchen much more stable and give you more confidence that everything is level. Have fun with the build!

I think the assembly instructions are really good. Important:
- Loosely tighten screws until everything fits correctly.
- Handle fronts carefully.
- Helpful: Two people for assembly.
Duration: 4-6 hours depending on the number of cabinets.
Tools: Cordless drill and screwdriver are sufficient.

GUSTAVO5612 Feb 2020 08:46Hello Jefferso50,
to take a closer look at your question, I would like to add a few details that are often overlooked by beginners when assembling Ikea Metod kitchens:
First: Precision when aligning the base and wall cabinets is crucial – make sure to check multiple times with a spirit level that everything is perfectly straight before fixing the cabinets in place. The Metod series uses modular units that can be adjusted well, but if the base structure is uneven, the next steps become unnecessarily complicated.
Second: The screws holding the cabinet frame together should be tightened carefully – overtightening can damage the holes. I also recommend occasionally clearing out sawdust from the drill holes during assembly, which is often overlooked.
Third: While installing the fronts does not require advanced skills, the small brackets and clips can be a bit tight at first. Patience is important here to avoid damaging the fronts.
If you want, you can tell me which kitchen model and how many units you are planning – then I can give you more specific advice. I’m also curious whether you plan to connect the electrical appliances yourself or if that will be done externally.
I hope these additions help you further!

Although front panel installation doesn’t require advanced skills, the small brackets and clips can be quite tight at first.I would add that slightly angling the panels when inserting them makes it easier to engage the clips. It saves a lot of frustration.
