YuliahHello,
I’m new here and registered specifically to get some advice regarding our new IKEA kitchen. We’ve already solved the dishwasher issue; we ordered a Siemens with a VarioHinge in XXL, which is supposed to fit.
Now we have a problem with the cooktop. We would like to choose induction (not from IKEA), but we were told that in this case you cannot install a drawer under the oven and have to use two panels instead. Is there any way to avoid this? I mean, is there any induction cooktop that still allows keeping the drawer below despite having a countertop only 2.8 cm (1.1 inches) thick? Is that 1 cm really such a problem since supposedly it would work with 3.8 cm (1.5 inches)?
Maybe someone can help us. We would appreciate it.
Kind regards
Yuliah

that depends on the drawer height. If the front height of the top drawer is 20 cm (8 inches), installing the cooktop should not present any problems.

A 20cm (8 inches) drawer front with a low drawer behind it is safe.

I would recommend checking the installation instructions provided by the respective manufacturers. For example, for the Miele KM 6322:
I would follow these guidelines—if only for warranty and guarantee reasons. Most manufacturers also specify minimum countertop thickness.

I would recommend checking the installation instructions provided by the respective manufacturers. For example, for the Miele KM 6322:
To ensure proper ventilation of the appliance, a minimum clearance is required below the unit in relation to an oven, an intermediate shelf, or a drawer. The minimum distance from the underside of the cooktop to
– the top of the oven must be 15 mm (0.6 inches).
– the top of the intermediate shelf must be 15 mm (0.6 inches).
– the bottom of the drawer must be 75 mm (3 inches).

IKEA-Experte28 Oct 2015 13:26I didn’t even notice the oven mentioned in the title. Do you want to install the oven at the bottom with a drawer above it? That would be very impractical unless you are extremely short. The drawer under the oven is very useful for baking trays and similar items.
