Hello everyone, I am currently considering how practical it can be to use the IKEA Kallax shelf as a platform, basically a raised surface for decoration or even as a seating area. My question to you is: Who among you uses the Kallax specifically as a platform, and what experiences have you had with it? I am especially interested in how stable the piece of furniture is in this function, whether it provides sufficient stability, and if you have modified or supplemented the shelf to make it better suited as a platform. Are there any special tips or potential issues you can share? I would appreciate detailed opinions to help me better assess this.

IKEA furniture is flexible for many uses, of course, but the construction is intended for storage, not necessarily for bearing weight from above. Anyone who really needs a platform might be better off choosing more specialized furniture.I tend to view this critically: okay for light decorative use, but as a seating option? Better not to take too many risks—safety comes first. Are there any experiences from the forum that prove otherwise?

It's stable, no worries Absolutely! I love using my Kallax as a platform! 🙂 With a simple padded wooden board on top, it even becomes really comfortable. You can use it for all sorts of things – plants, seating, or even as a small stage for events at home!Muso4 schrieb:
Who wants to sit on a shelf that’s not specifically designed for that? Fair point, but honestly: if the shelf is well assembled and securely fixed to the wall, it can hold quite a bit. And that’s exactly what makes it so appealing: the versatility! If you want flexible living, the Kallax is a real chameleon! So – just go for it and give it a try :-)
