Marina67Hello everyone, I’m considering placing my IKEA KALLAX shelf on a platform to highlight it a bit and also protect the floor. The question I have is: who of you has built a platform for your KALLAX, and how did you secure it to ensure the shelf stands stable and safe? I’m especially interested in solutions that prevent the shelf from sliding or tipping over later on. Maybe you also have tips on which materials work well for the platform to support the shelf optimally? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
I think the idea of a platform is great, especially if you want to protect the floor or simply enhance the look. I haven’t built a platform myself yet, but I would make sure the material is definitely strong enough to support the weight and that the shelf is not only glued or screwed but also secured against slipping. Otherwise, it can quickly become unsafe, especially if there are children or pets nearby.

I placed my KALLAX on wooden slats and secured it with brackets That’s how I usually do it too. Hammer and screws, nothing complicated and very sturdy.

I built my platform on an 18mm (0.7 inch) thick plywood sheet, which I sealed with durable parquet lacquer. To secure it, I used special furniture corner brackets, attaching them to the shelf and platform with small screws. Additionally, I applied anti-slip strips along the base to prevent movement. This combination provides excellent stability and safety.
