Hello Ikea fans,

I’m currently assembling the base cabinets for my new kitchen, and unfortunately, the legs that come with them are too long. The stove and sink have a standard height of 85cm (33.5 inches), but the base cabinets are 70cm (27.5 inches) high, and the legs are unfortunately 16cm (6.3 inches). The countertop still needs to go on top of that. Is this a common issue? How is it usually solved? If I simply shorten the legs, the kickboard won’t fit anymore. Hmm...

I’m sure you’ve heard of this before.

Greetings from Leipzig.

Hi

The legs are not too long. The 16mm (about 0.6 inches) Faktum legs can be adjusted from 14.5cm to 18cm (5.7 to 7.1 inches).
Usually, freestanding cookers and dishwashers also have adjustable legs. If something doesn’t fit, it can be adjusted to fit.

Important: The installation manual does not mention that the feet need to be secured with small screws, otherwise the leg will fall off. Just screw a screw into the second recess, where the small hole is.

Best regards

Hello,
instead of the 16cm (6.3 inches) Faktum legs, you can use the 11cm (4.3 inches) Capita legs or consider an alternative supplier.

Thanks for the quick responses.

I was hoping you’d tell me it’s okay to just cut off the legs.

I’ve now assembled the cabinets and will probably have to raise the stove and sink when the countertop goes on. Hmm… it would have been nice if someone at Ikea had told me there are shorter legs available. Well… I didn’t want to cut them because it would probably make it a bit unstable, and unfortunately the threaded part isn’t continuous. It’s a bit annoying that the offered shorter version is too tall for standard stoves and sinks.

Still, thanks a lot to all of you and best regards from here,
Eric.

What kind of stove and dishwasher do you have?
Freestanding stoves don’t have a countertop on top. All freestanding stoves I know, from brands like Oranjer or Siemens, have adjustable feet at the bottom, which can compensate for about 2–3 cm (1 inch). Check the user manual for details.

If your dishwasher is 85 cm (33.5 inches) tall, it’s probably a freestanding model rather than an undercounter one. You can usually tell by whether it has a top cover like a washing machine. Undercounter dishwashers typically have no top cover and a standard height of about 82 cm (32 inches). However, since kitchens can be taller—sometimes 92 cm (36 inches) or more—most major manufacturers also offer models in different heights to fit various kitchen designs. These models also have adjustable feet.

Also check the user manual for your dishwasher, as some models have removable tops, allowing them to fit under a countertop.

By the way, at Ikea’s kitchen departments, all available leg options, whether Faktum or Capita, are displayed side by side for comparison.

Hello Nordtkäppchen,

my dishwasher is not a freestanding unit. The sink and a small basin are directly above it. Unfortunately, there are no adjustable feet underneath. The height of the appliance is, as mentioned, 85 cm (33 inches), and my stove is the same height. The base cabinets themselves are 70 cm (28 inches) tall, and the legs add at least 14.5 cm (6 inches). Since the countertop also has to go on top, the cabinets are too tall. Tomorrow I will check at the hardware store to see if I can raise the appliances by a few centimeters (inches). Maybe there is at least a quick solution for this.

Thanks and best regards,
Eric.
