Hello
We are currently planning our kitchen, and it is very important to me to place the Domsjö sink in front of the window.
When we visited Ikea Mannheim this week to look at some things, an employee glanced at our kitchen planner and said this wouldn’t be possible. A kitchen planner called in for assistance also said it would only be possible under certain conditions depending on the measurements.
They said the Domsjö sink needs to be fixed to the wall, and that could cause problems below the window.
I was really upset because I do not want to change the kitchen layout.

Now I have researched online and found no indication, not even in the online installation guide, that the Domsjö double sink must be attached to the wall (which would be strange).

Can anyone help me?
Thank you

I think you mean the large "top-mount" sink.

From what I can see in the instructions, nothing is attached to the wall. Anything else would have surprised me as well.

What you need to make sure of is that there is enough space between the top of the countertop and the bottom edge of the window so that the sink, which has a rim that is higher than the countertop, will fit in there.

There are no issues with the depth. The sink does slightly overhang at the front but sits flush with the back edge of the countertop.

At least that's how it looks to me. I have never actually handled this sink myself.

(Provided, of course, that there are base cabinets with a countertop on both the right and left side of the sink. Or you probably know that the countertop will be completely replaced at this spot by the sink, so you would have at least two separate countertop sections that need to be secured individually and both should have enough support surface.)

There is no problem with the sink and the window frame. The windowsill will be removed, and the countertop will extend behind the sink up to the window. The lower part of the window is fixed; I specifically arranged it this way during the renovation so that I can have a faucet in front of it while still being able to open the window.

On both sides, there are kitchen cabinets so that the sink can rest on them.

Then there should be no problems.

Only your sentence: "the countertop extends behind the sink up to the window" is confusing, because directly behind the sink is the wall, or do you mean "next to" the sink?

What is clear, however, is that none of the three Domsjö sinks are mounted on the wall, but only on the side.

Edit: Ah, never mind. Now I understand how you are planning it.

The windowsill is at the same height as the countertop, and you now want to replace the windowsill with the countertop.
...or maybe not?

Off the top of my head, I don’t see anything that would speak against it.
