Hello everyone, I have been struggling for some time to remove stubborn stains from my Ikea Besta furniture. The surfaces seem sensitive, and some cleaning products are either too harsh or ineffective. The main issue is dried-on beverage and grease residues on the coated fronts and shelves. I am specifically looking for effective and gentle cleaning tips that really work without damaging the coating or color. Perhaps someone can share their experience or recommend a proven method? Which cleaning agents have worked well for you, and how do you tackle these stubborn stains without ruining the furniture? Thanks in advance!

I would recommend starting by cleaning with a mild dish soap and warm water. For stubborn stains, you can gently remove them using a microfiber cloth and a small amount of vinegar. Be careful not to scrub too hard, as this can damage the surface.

As a supplement: Ikea BESTA surfaces are typically melamine-coated, which makes them relatively resistant to moisture but not suitable for heavy mechanical stress. For stubborn stains, the following procedure is recommended:

- First, clean with a soft cloth and warm soapy water.
- If stains remain, apply 70-percent isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol to a soft cloth and gently treat the affected areas.
- Under no circumstances use abrasive cleaners or aggressive chemical agents, as they can damage the coating.
- After treatment, be sure to wipe again with a damp cloth to remove any residues.

This method is considered safe and helps prevent damage.

Hello nuflo, I would like to provide a more detailed explanation, as this type of furniture actually requires a somewhat specialized cleaning approach.

1. Preparation:
- First, remove dust and loose dirt with a soft microfiber cloth or a duster.

2. Basic cleaning:
- Use lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
- Dampen the cloth, wring it out thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface.

3. Treating stubborn stains:
- For dried-on drink or grease stains, a mixture of vinegar essence (1 part) and water (3 parts) works well.
- Moisten a cloth with this solution and test it on a less visible area first.
- If the test is successful, gently treat the stain without strong rubbing.
- Alternatively, if vinegar does not help, try using a cloth dampened with alcohol (isopropanol).

4. Rinse cleaning:
- Remove all cleaning residue with a damp, clean cloth.
- Dry the surface with a dry cloth to avoid water spots.

5. Additional tips:
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing pads.
- Avoid aggressive solvents such as acetone or gasoline.
- Avoid direct sunlight during or after cleaning to prevent discoloration.

I hope this step-by-step guide helps you!

I can only confirm that. I once had problems with stubborn stains on my BESTA cabinets and was quite frustrated at first. The fear of damaging the furniture made me hesitate for a while. But with some patience and the method recommended by LUISABEL, I was able to remove the stains.

Additionally, sometimes applying a bit of warmth helps – placing a warm, damp cloth over the stains for a few minutes to soften them before gently rubbing.

Many thanks to everyone who has shared useful knowledge here! I hope we can continue exchanging experiences so that no one has to struggle unnecessarily with their furniture.
