Hello everyone,
I am considering buying a Pax wardrobe system from IKEA, specifically the drawers with the locking mechanism. My main question is: how long does the locking mechanism of these Pax drawers typically last with normal use?
I am interested in whether this mechanism is durable over the long term or if it often experiences defects, wear, or reduced functionality, especially in households with heavy use. If anyone has been using these drawers for a longer period, a review of your experience would be very helpful.
Additionally, I would like to know if there are any known weak points, if and how the locking mechanism can be maintained, and which factors can significantly affect its lifespan.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Regular cleaning extends the lifespanThis is really important! Sometimes I feel that everyday dust and small debris can significantly affect functionality.
One more question to the community: How often do you clean your drawer runners in practice?

How often do you clean your drawer slides in practice?I would recommend at least a quick dusting or using compressed air every 6 months (half a year). It doesn’t take long and can prevent bigger problems. If the drawer starts to stick or become hard to operate, the cleaning should be done immediately before further damage occurs.

To me, this sounds like a reasonable locking mechanism that, with some maintenance, will reliably fulfill its function. The tips regarding maintenance and spare parts are very helpful for my decision.
Just to be sure: Is there actually a difference in the durability of the locking mechanism depending on the drawer type within the Pax series? Some are made of wood, others of metal or plastic.

The locking mechanism is standardized and identical across the Pax drawers. Differences are more related to the materials and sturdiness of the drawer boxes, but this hardly affects the locking mechanism.
In addition to the previous answer: The load on the drawer due to weight can indirectly affect the lifespan of the locking mechanism.
A heavier drawer puts more stress on the entire mechanism, which can lead to faster wear and tear. Therefore, it is important to use the drawer according to the manufacturer's specifications regarding load capacity.
