Hello everyone, I am planning to mount my Ikea Pax wardrobe system on a concrete wall soon and am looking for the best approach to do so. I am particularly interested in which types of anchors and screws are most suitable for a stable and secure attachment of the wardrobe units to solid concrete walls, without damaging the wall or the wardrobe. Does anyone have experience with specific fastening methods, such as chemical anchors or specialized heavy-duty anchors? It would also be helpful to get practical advice on how to pre-drill the holes, including which drill bit to use and the appropriate drilling depth to ensure optimal stability. Thanks in advance for your tips!
Super interesting here! I would also add that it can be helpful to thoroughly clean the drill holes with a vacuum cleaner before finally mounting the Pax units. And if you want to do it perfectly, place thin rubber pads between the cabinet and the wall to reduce vibration and protect the concrete. Oh, and it’s best to secure the cabinets with clamps or have an assistant hold them in place while fastening, so the units don’t shift. This keeps the whole assembly stable and stress-free.

Chemical anchors provide higher holding strength but are usually not necessary for standard Ikea cabinets, except in cases of above-average load or unusual wall conditions.I agree that chemical anchors are often oversized for most applications. However, I do recommend using injection mortar for heavily loaded Pax wardrobe units (for example, walk-in closets with a lot of weight from clothing and accessories) and thick, solid walls. Installation takes a bit longer since the resin needs to cure, but the load capacity is optimal. If someone has a wall made of thin in-situ concrete or precast concrete panels, they should ensure that the anchor does not sit centered within the concrete but has sufficient embedment depth.
In summary: For standard Pax wardrobes in solid concrete walls, high-quality metal heavy-duty anchors are excellent. For heavier loads or special wall structures, chemical anchors are worth considering.
