Hello everyone,

I am facing the challenge of assembling several Ikea Pax wardrobes in a room with an irregular layout, where there are no rectangular free walls. The room has some recesses and corners with unusual angles, making a simple, straight placement impossible. My question is: How can Ikea Pax wardrobes be installed effectively and securely in such angled rooms?

What should be considered when attaching the wardrobes to each other and simultaneously fixing them to the wall to ensure maximum stability? Are there any special tips or modular approaches to make the most of the room geometry without causing issues later when opening the doors?

I already have some basic experience with furniture assembly, but working with angled rooms is new to me. I’m looking forward to your experiences or recommendations, especially regarding the Pax system setup in small and complexly shaped spaces.

Thank you in advance!

It is best to assemble the cabinets individually and then align them according to the available angles. Use the wall brackets to ensure stability. If necessary, adjust spacers or shelves to compensate for any irregularities.

When installing Ikea Pax wardrobes in irregularly shaped rooms, it is important to measure the available space precisely. Ideally, you should start by drawing a sketch and accurately measuring the room angles.

For corner solutions, there are items such as corner connectors and flexible wall brackets available either from Ikea or third-party suppliers. I recommend the following:

- Assemble wardrobes separately, then join them together
- Position wall brackets to securely fix the wardrobes, even if the walls are uneven
- Use flexible door stops if the rooms have irregular angles

Another important aspect is measuring for the doors: sliding doors or doors with special hinges can be helpful for angled walls.

If needed, you can also build partition walls or adapt wardrobes with insert elements to fit the room shape.

I believe it’s worth getting a bit creative with quirky or awkwardly shaped rooms! 😉 Especially with the Pax system, you can do a lot modularly. Just assemble the wardrobes separately and then see how they fit best together and into the corners. Don’t forget the flexibility of the interior components – hanging rails, shelves, etc., can often make adjustments easier.

Sometimes it’s also wise not to push the wardrobes completely against the walls but to leave small gaps for the door openings. The doors are often the trickiest part in such complex spaces.

Another point is the door measurements: with slanted walls, sliding doors or doors with special hinges can be helpful.

I have to agree there, sliding doors are often a brilliant tip when space is tight!

When installing, I would not rely solely on wall mounting and modular components but also thoroughly check the load-bearing capacity of the wall. Especially with complex room shapes, the walls may not be strong enough to securely support the cabinets.

It is often recommended to fix the cabinets directly to the wall – but what if the wall is angled or made of drywall, and the attachment points are not ideal? In that case, freestanding solutions or additional connections between the cabinets should be considered.

My specific answer would be: Secure cabinets with sturdy connecting brackets wherever possible and choose anchors and screws suitable for the wall type (e.g., metal anchors for concrete, specialty anchors for drywall). Additionally, multi-point fastening can be useful to distribute stress points and improve stability.

I had a similar issue and can only say: It’s worth spending time on measuring and planning! 😊

- Get a spirit level and a reliable tape measure
- Consider whether you want to build individual cabinets or combinations
- A little tip: Position the cabinets temporarily without fixing them and check the door function first!

This worked really well for me. Don’t forget to secure the cabinets to the wall – especially for tall cabinets, it’s a crucial safety factor!

Wishing you the best of luck with everything! 💪
