Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of securely and permanently fixing the glass fronts on my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. I want to prevent the fronts from being damaged or loosening over time due to their own weight or pressure during everyday use.

My previous experience with furniture assembly is good; I know the basics and have assembled IKEA cabinets before. However, in my opinion, the glass cabinet fronts are somewhat more delicate elements, especially because of the material and glazed surfaces.

I am particularly interested in:
- Which screws and fasteners are actually suitable?
- Are there any special mounting aids or techniques that increase stability?
- What exactly should I pay attention to when attaching the fronts to Metod carcasses?
- Does anyone have practical tips on how to align the glass fronts without damaging them?

I look forward to well-founded answers, thanks in advance!

Use screws that meet Ikea specifications and do not drill any independent holes into the glass.

Attach hinges to the carcass first, then to the front panel, and carefully tighten the screws.

Always work with care.

For clarification:

The maximum screw length of about 12 mm (0.5 inches) is not an arbitrary recommendation but is based on the thickness of the frame of the Metod glass fronts. These wooden or metal frames are typically between 15 and 18 mm (0.6 and 0.7 inches) thick, while the glass panel itself is usually around 4 mm (0.16 inches) thick.

Longer screws could penetrate through the frame and apply pressure to the glass, which may cause micro-cracks or even breakage.

Equally important is the precise alignment of the fronts using the hinges, which offer continuous adjustability. This helps prevent stress on the front panels.

Practical tips:
- Clean the screw threads before installation.
- Tighten screws with low torque.
- Pay attention to resistance during tightening.

The benefit is to avoid stress cracks or damage along the glass frame.

This is exactly why I always emphasize at the beginning that you should use the original screws from Ikea. Deviations often cause problems, especially when it comes to glass fronts and people tend to choose “stronger” screws that are too long or too large.

I would also add that a lot of patience is needed during adjustment. Do not apply too much pressure when tightening the screws, as this may require readjustment afterwards. In short: proceed step by step to best protect the glass.

Furthermore, I recommend leaving the front-facing screws adjustable for the final fine-tuning so they can be readjusted if necessary without having to remove the entire front.
