Hello everyone,

I am planning to install several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in my apartment, but I have the problem that the floor where the cabinets will stand is not completely level and is slightly unstable in places.

My question is: How can I install the Metod cabinets as safely and securely as possible on such uneven floors?

What should I particularly pay attention to in order to prevent the cabinets from tipping or sliding? Are there any special techniques, materials, or additional components that you would recommend?

I have already considered adjustable feet but am unsure if that is enough or if there are other useful tips—for example, floor anchors, special underlays, or combining with specific moldings.

I would greatly appreciate your experiences, practical advice, or insights from professionals.

Adjustable feet are mandatory.

Additionally, screw the cabinets together to form a rigid unit.

For uneven floors, you can place thin leveling boards or timber underneath.

Hello Geoffrey,

First of all, I find your detailed question very helpful – it allows for more targeted answers.

For uneven and unstable floors, there are several ways to securely install the IKEA Metod cabinets:

- Use adjustable feet, which is standard practice and helps to compensate for small unevenness.
- Connect the cabinets to each other using the IKEA connector fittings or screws, as a screwed-together run is much more stable.
- A substructure made of sturdy wood or OSB boards under the cabinets can even out irregularities and create a continuous surface.
- If the floor is very uneven or unstable, it is worthwhile to additionally fix the cabinets to the wall with metal brackets or special mounting plates.

It is also important to distribute the load evenly and make sure nothing wobbles before placing the countertop. If something is unstable, definitely readjust the feet.

I hope this helps! If you like, you can also provide some information about the floor, for example, whether it is a wooden plank floor or screed.

Hey Geoffrey, great that you’re asking so thoroughly! 🙂

I can only say: I love the adjustable feet on the Metod cabinets! They give you the perfect flexibility to level out uneven floors. Also, screwing the modules together is brilliant because it makes the cabinets a rock-solid team! 😄

One little tip: Sometimes rubber pads are enough—they provide better grip and reduce wobbling!

So keep at it, with the right setup your living room will soon become a professional kitchen! Good luck, you’ve got this! 👍

Exactly, that's what I would recommend as well. This kind of "base plate" makes the entire foundation much more solid, especially if you combine several methods. You can think of it almost like the foundation of a house – it needs to fit perfectly, otherwise everything will be unstable.

I also advise adjusting the adjustable feet with millimeter precision. A little tip: use a spirit level and check several times – accuracy is key here.

Oh, and before I forget: when attaching the cabinets to the wall, make sure to use the right wall plugs and screws so everything is securely fixed.

With these steps, you’ll surely enjoy your kitchen for a long time 😊
