Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble IKEA Platsa furniture in my rental apartment and want to secure the furniture in a way that is safe and tenant-friendly. Since PLATSA systems are often quite large and heavy, I am wondering what the best way is to install this furniture without damaging the walls or upsetting the landlord? Are there any specific tips or materials to ensure stability, especially if you prefer not to use traditional wall anchors? I would appreciate detailed advice, preferably based on experience, on how to mount the furniture securely, stably, and with minimal traces.
Thanks to everyone for the many helpful tips! It’s clear to me that I should mount the Platsa modules on the solid wall using universal anchors, ideally securing them only at the top and connecting the furniture pieces to each other to increase stability. Before drilling, I will carefully inspect the wall and use a small drill bit. I also find the idea of using anti-slip pads underneath to prevent shifting quite interesting. I would also like to know if anyone has experience with using spacers between the furniture and the wall, for example to protect the wall behind the cabinet or to allow better air circulation? Or are such spacers rather counterproductive for stability?

Spacers can sometimes help improve air circulation and thus prevent mold, especially in more humid living spaces. However, you should ensure they are not too thick, as a larger gap can reduce stability. If you use rubber or plastic spacers that do not compress, you can still secure the furniture well—but installing wall brackets is advisable in any case for safety. An alternative option is small felt or rubber pads, which help keep things tidy but do not function as technical spacers.
