Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble IKEA Platsa furniture in my rental apartment and want to secure the furniture in a way that is safe and tenant-friendly. Since PLATSA systems are often quite large and heavy, I am wondering what the best way is to install this furniture without damaging the walls or upsetting the landlord? Are there any specific tips or materials to ensure stability, especially if you prefer not to use traditional wall anchors? I would appreciate detailed advice, preferably based on experience, on how to mount the furniture securely, stably, and with minimal traces.
I think using a concrete wall provides a solid foundation for secure mounting. I have personally installed freestanding cabinets in my rental apartment, and fixing them to the wall simply gives a much safer feeling, especially when small children or pets are around. If you want extra stability without extensive drilling, I’ve also considered combining this with specially designed stability furniture legs – but that can never fully replace wall mounting. What worked well for me was precisely aligning and screwing the modules together before attaching them to prevent any movement between them. For the landlord, I noted in the handover report that all wall plugs would be removed and the holes professionally filled later.
Be sure to use the wall fasteners provided by IKEA, as they are specifically designed for PLATSA. Without these, tall units could tip over. You can fill the drill holes later with filler. Otherwise, make sure to insert the anchors firmly, not too loosely. If it feels very unstable, it’s better to secure it again.
I also secured my PLATSA shelves this way, and I really like how stable they feel! 🙂 The best part is that when you assemble them, you hardly make any mistakes because everything is clearly explained. I think it’s very important to firmly attach the furniture to the wall, especially if you live in an older building. It just makes you feel safer!
Hello Amarja, since you have a solid wall, I would recommend using universal anchors that are suitable for concrete. It is important to pay attention to the correct drilling depth so that the anchors hold securely and do not become loose. For PLATSA furniture, you can use the included locking brackets, which can be mounted on the back panel and then fixed to the wall. Make sure the screws are not too long to avoid unnecessarily weakening the wall. I also recommend using felt pads on the feet to protect the floor. Please check for any cables or pipes before drilling.

Are there any tips to keep in mind when installing the modules?A key tip: assemble the modules piece by piece, but only fasten them together using the IKEA-specific connectors before mounting them on the wall. This prevents them from shifting. For wall installation, it is recommended to use a spirit level to ensure the furniture is perfectly straight. If possible, place the supports directly against load-bearing walls or columns. Avoid large overhangs on the floor that could increase the risk of tipping. Also, be sure to properly fill any holes in the wall when moving out. I like to use painter's fleece or special angled beading to minimize drilling spots.

For solid walls, it is also possible to use longer heavy-duty anchors if necessary, to ensure secure fastening. Make sure to ensure adequate load distribution; individual anchors should not be overloaded.
