Hello everyone,
I am currently considering buying some furniture from the IKEA Platsa series, but I have a specific question: Are there any special safety measures with the PLATSA furniture, such as regarding stability, wall mounting, or childproofing, that I should be aware of?
My reason is that I have small children, so I pay special attention to tip-over safety and potential hazards.
I would like to know if IKEA has implemented anything specific for the PLATSA furniture or if I need to plan additional precautions. Thanks for any information!

Don’t worry! I have Platsa in my apartment with small children, and it holds perfectly! Just always remember: follow the assembly instructions carefully and use the wall anchors, then nothing will be unstable.
Also: the furniture can be easily customized and secured, I really think PLATSA is great!

Just a quick note: Simply securing the wall attachment is, of course, necessary, but it is not always sufficient on its own. The overall construction should also be critically evaluated for tipping stability, especially when multiple modules are stacked on top of each other.
Additionally, I wonder whether the load limits of the shelves and screws in this modular system have been adequately tested. There are cases where IKEA furniture became unstable due to incorrect assembly methods. Does anyone have a reliable source that details the load tolerances for the PLATSA system more precisely?

I am also wondering whether the load limits of the shelves and screws in this modular system have been adequately tested.IKEA usually specifies a maximum load of about 10 to 15 kg (22 to 33 lbs) per shelf panel for the PLATSA system, depending on the positioning and number of fixing points.
For the entire structure, the manufacturer’s recommendation is clear:
- Do not stack too high without wall anchoring
- Assemble correctly using all supplied fittings
These recommendations can be found in the IKEA assembly instructions and form the basis for safety.

Does anyone have a reliable source that details the load-bearing tolerances of PLATSA more precisely? The load-bearing tolerances are published in the assembly instructions provided by IKEA, but these are usually general maximum values without detailed test reports. If you plan a version with special features, it is advisable to conduct tests on individual modules to accurately assess the load limits.
Regarding drywall (plasterboard) walls: Installing PLATSA often requires specific drywall anchors that can withstand high tensile and shear forces. The standard tilt-locking using metal brackets is sufficient if these anchors are properly sized.
In summary, IKEA PLATSA furniture is primarily secured by anchoring it to the wall. Special safety features such as child locks are not included.
For those with small children, it is recommended to:
- Always fasten the furniture using the supplied angle brackets
- Use appropriate wall plugs for drywall (plasterboard) walls
- Regularly check the stability of the furniture
This is the common recommendation.
