I have several Hemnes furniture pieces from IKEA at home, which I generally like very much. However, I am currently looking for ways to protect these furniture items from heat exposure, as they are located in a room that gets very warm in the summer and occasionally receives direct sunlight on the furniture.

My specific question is: How can IKEA Hemnes furniture be protected from heat without damaging the surface or altering their characteristic appearance? I am thinking of targeted measures that are easy to implement and can prevent warping, discoloration, or other heat-related damage.

Are there any experiences with heat protection films, special coatings, or other protection methods that I should consider? I look forward to your expert advice and any recommendations based on your own experience.

A small addition to the measures already mentioned:

- Avoid placing furniture directly against hot walls, if possible.
- Air circulation behind furniture is important to prevent heat buildup.
- Regularly check for the formation of stress cracks and treat them early if necessary.

This is usually sufficient to prevent long-term damage.

Why does Hemnes absolutely need to be protected just because it gets warm sometimes?

This attitude underestimates the material properties of solid wood and the effects of increased temperatures on indoor furniture.

High heat from direct sunlight can cause the wood to swell, color changes, and in extreme cases, cracking. Therefore, protection is definitely recommended, depending on the location and use.

It’s not about “Sahara” temperatures, but about preventing everyday damage.

This point is important, easy to implement, and reduces the risk of heat being trapped between the wall and the furniture.

One more practical idea: install holes for air circulation behind the row of furniture or use spacers.

This protects the material and prevents heat buildup. It works well and is simple.

Darkening windows is the most effective method to keep heat away from furniture.

In addition, ceiling fans and good room ventilation help.

Everything else is usually just supplementary.

I think it’s great how many measures come together here! Just try and combine them, and the Hemnes furniture will stay beautiful, even in heat!

And don’t panic – with some effort, everything will turn out fine. Stay creative and don’t give up! 🙂
