Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet doors: one of the doors is broken at the corner, probably due to an impact, and I would like to know the best way to repair such damage.

My main concern is whether it is possible to fix the door without completely replacing it, for example by gluing or reinforcing it, or if I need to order replacement parts from IKEA. I am also interested in which materials or techniques you would recommend to restore the stability, since the door is quite large and heavy.

Does anyone have experience repairing such MDF or fiberboard on Metod doors? If so, how exactly would you proceed, and what tools are needed? Thanks in advance!

I will try using clamps and PU glue, and I have also considered adding reinforcement from the inside.

That basically sounds reasonable. However, I would like to point out that surface protection is especially important for a Methabond-painted door. PU glue sometimes does not react well with smooth surfaces, and you should definitely avoid pressure marks.

It is important to lightly roughen the contact areas before gluing, without damaging the paint layer. Otherwise, visible damage or creases may occur.

Additionally, reinforcement is not only mechanically useful but also extends the service life of the repaired door, especially if the corner usually experiences high stress.

Still, if the door has many cracks, you should consider measures to reduce strain, for example limiting the door opening angle slightly or closing it more gently until the repair is fully dried.

Could you also say whether the fittings are intact or if the hinge screws have already loosened? The cause of the break could also be mechanical due to improper alignment.
