Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in a room with a sloped ceiling. I am wondering how to properly adapt and mount the cabinets to the angled walls without compromising stability or functionality. In particular, I am interested in which steps are necessary during the planning and installation stages to avoid potential issues related to the slope and possibly non-standard dimensions. Are there any specific tips on how to securely fasten the cabinets, whether to use brackets or special modifications, and how to optimally adjust the cabinet fronts or shelves? I have found mostly very general advice in other forums, so I would appreciate practical and as detailed recommendations as possible.
Great that you are approaching this so carefully! Be sure to take your time with the template, as it will save you a lot of trouble later on. During installation, remember to adjust doors and drawers after fitting – especially with sloped ceilings, they can rub otherwise. If you use wooden battens as spacers, make sure to align them straight and check with a spirit level! This will definitely turn out great, good luck with the renovation!
Thanks for the tips! I have one last important question: Are there any limitations when trimming panels or side walls on Metod cabinets to maintain stability? How much can be cut off without affecting the cabinet’s functionality? I will definitely need to consider this when adjusting for the slope.

Are there any restrictions when trimming panels or side walls of Metod cabinets to maintain stability? The IKEA Metod series is modular; however, you can trim panels and side walls to a limited extent, but make sure the load-bearing structure is not compromised. Trimming panels is usually not an issue—they mainly serve an aesthetic purpose and cover gaps. For side walls, pay attention to the pre-punched positions for dowels and screws, and avoid shortening if it would eliminate important connections.
Avoid cutting load-bearing joints or the areas where hinges are installed.
As a general guideline, it is recommended to trim no more than 5-10cm (2-4 inches) while deburring the cut edges carefully. If larger adjustments are needed, consider combining with cut-to-size boards or custom-made components to ensure stability.
When using a jigsaw, use fine-tooth blades for a clean cut and protect the surfaces with painter’s tape.
