Hello everyone, I am currently planning to carry out my small kitchen project using IKEA Metod cabinets and would like to specifically find out which of the Metod cabinets are especially easy to maintain. I am particularly interested in how the surfaces hold up in everyday use, how easily they can be cleaned from grease, water, or dust, and whether certain materials or finishes offer advantages based on your experience. Do you have any specific cabinet types or fronts within the Metod range that you would recommend for a kitchen that requires minimal effort when cleaning? Perhaps also experiences with fronts made of foil-coated MDF or high-gloss lacquer? Thanks for your tips!

I find melamine surfaces the easiest to maintain. Simply wipe them with a damp cloth; grease or sticky spots come off quickly. Painted fronts are more delicate and require more care.

Foil-faced fronts are excellent because the surface is very smooth and durable. Dirt hardly sticks to them, and they can be easily wiped clean. Painted surfaces do have a nice gloss but are more prone to scratches.

To properly answer the question, we should first take a look at the different materials used for Metod fronts. The most commonly used are painted fronts, foil-covered MDF fronts, and veneer fronts. Painted fronts (especially high gloss) are very attractive and give the kitchen a modern look; however, they require more maintenance in daily use because greasy fingerprints and water spots show up quickly. For cleaning, it is recommended to use a soft microfiber cloth and mild soapy water. You should be careful not to use any abrasive cleaners that could damage the paint layer. Foil-covered fronts have a very smooth, durable surface that can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth without much worry. They are also resistant to moisture and provide good protection against typical kitchen dirt. One combination I can recommend is the matte foil front, as it makes dust less visible compared to high-gloss ones.

Now to the question: How do you use your kitchen? Is it mainly for cooking involving a lot of grease, or is it used more lightly? This can help provide a recommendation tailored to your individual needs.

I completely agree! I initially had glossy fronts and was constantly cleaning, which was really frustrating. After switching to matte laminated fronts, the effort has been significantly reduced, and the kitchen still looks modern.

For daily maintenance, melamine fronts are the best option. They are durable, and stains can be easily wiped off with a damp cloth. I would not recommend lacquered fronts, as they require more care.
