I have chosen the Metod system with glass fronts for my new kitchen from Ikea and am now looking for a proper cleaning recommendation that I can use regularly without damaging the glass surface or the frames.

It is important to me that neither harsh chemicals nor abrasive cleaners are used, as I am concerned they might damage the sealant or cause scratches. I would also like to know if there are any special cleaning products or methods that are particularly suitable for the glass fronts of the Ikea Metod system.

Does anyone have experience with cleaning and maintaining these glass fronts? Are there any tips for removing fingerprints or grease stains, which are often visible on such kitchen fronts? Thanks for any helpful advice!

For gentle and effective cleaning of Ikea Metod glass fronts, it is important to first understand their composition and surface characteristics. These fronts usually consist of tempered glass with an aluminum or plastic frame around the edges, which can be sensitive to certain cleaning agents.

It is essential to avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners, as they can cause micro-cracks or dull spots. A recommended approach is as follows:

- First: Use a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth to prevent scratches.
- Second: Use an alcohol-based glass cleaner suitable for delicate surfaces. It is best to choose one without ammonia to avoid damaging the frame.
- Third: Avoid letting liquid seep into the edges or joints, as dirt can accumulate there and cause damage.
- Fourth: For stubborn fingerprints, apply a small amount of mild dishwashing detergent diluted in warm water to the cloth, wipe the surface, and immediately dry to prevent streaks.

I also recommend drying the front with a dry microfiber or cotton cloth after cleaning to avoid water spots.

Could you please share how often you plan to clean the fronts and whether you experience problems with heavy grease or other deposits? This information would help tailor the cleaning advice more precisely.

I always clean Metod glass fronts with clear water and a microfiber cloth. For tougher dirt, I use a small amount of dish soap in warm water, then wipe again with a dry cloth. Do not use harsh cleaners or abrasive materials.

- Fourth: For stubborn fingerprints, apply a small amount of mild dish soap diluted in warm water to the cloth, wipe the surface, and immediately dry it to prevent streaks.

These instructions are complete and accurate. Especially the point about avoiding moisture entering the joints is often underestimated and leads to dirt buildup that is difficult to remove.

Additionally, I recommend finishing the cleaning by using compressed air from a small can or a soft brush to get into the corners and edges of the glass panels. This effectively removes loosened dirt without damaging the material.

With frequent use, the surface can also be treated every few weeks with a special polishing cloth designed for glass, to keep the panels shiny and resistant to fingerprints. It is important not to use oily or greasy cleaning agents as they leave residues.

I have had similar fronts in use for about two years. My routine is as follows:

- I avoid all aggressive cleaners because the glass surface has a special coating that becomes dull when exposed to strong chemicals.
- To remove fingerprints, I use a mixture of distilled water and a small amount of vinegar (about 1:10), applied with a soft microfiber cloth. Vinegar dissolves grease residues without damaging the glass.
- Afterwards, I immediately wipe with a second dry microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
- For stubborn stains, I have carefully tested a glass cleaner spray containing isopropanol, which evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.

Important: Make sure not to apply too much cleaning solution to avoid water getting into the joints. Although the glass fronts are sturdy, moisture can damage the frame.

If you already have deeper stains, I recommend removing the fronts for cleaning, if possible. This way, you can clean more thoroughly from the outside without liquid getting into the mechanisms.
