Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding the cleaning of my Billy shelves from Ikea. Specifically, it concerns stubborn stains that cannot be removed with standard cleaning products. The shelves have a white laminated surface, and of course, I do not want to damage it.
Does anyone have experience with the best way to treat such stains? Which cleaning agents or methods are suitable to protect the surface while effectively cleaning it?
I look forward to your tips and advice!

It is important to use the liquid sparingly and to dry the surface thoroughly afterward. For foil-covered fronts in particular, microfiber cloths and gentle cleaning agents are recommended.
Regarding felt-tip pen stains: Provided the foil is intact, special plastic erasers work quite well. However, avoid rubbing too hard, as this can cause dull spots.
If stains are very stubborn or cannot be removed, replacement shelves or fronts from Ikea are usually affordable, if a quick solution is needed.

I usually clean my Billy shelves with warm water and a bit of dish soap, as many others recommend. For really stubborn stains, I swear by the classic trick of using a rubber eraser – it works almost like magic without damaging the surface. Just try it slowly and carefully.
And don’t worry, the shelves are more durable than you might think! But to be safe, always test first in an inconspicuous corner.
By the way, I once read that a baking soda paste is actually a great secret tip if you wipe gently. 🙂
