Hello everyone, I recently planned my kitchen using the IKEA Metod system, and unfortunately, I have found that the workflows are not yet optimal. Specifically, I want to find out which practical tips and adjustments can be made in an IKEA Metod kitchen to make working on the countertop, storage, and organization significantly more efficient. I am interested in suggestions regarding the interior layout of the cabinets, the ergonomics of the work areas, as well as the use of accessories specifically designed for Metod. Are there proven strategies that improve kitchen workflow and minimize the distances when cooking and preparing food? I look forward to your insights and experiences.

To optimize the kitchen workflow, I recommend grouping utensils that are often used together in one drawer. This keeps the working distances short. For example, place cooking spoons, spatulas, and spices close to the stove. Additionally, a lazy Susan in corner cabinets helps make better use of the space and allows quick access to items.

I would like to add that adjusting the height of the work surfaces is also an important factor with Metod. For ergonomic working, it is recommended to have a work height tailored to your own body height—usually between 85 and 95 cm (33 to 37 inches). This helps minimize strain and makes workflows more efficient. Integrating a pull-out cutting board installed beneath the work surface can also increase usable space without extending the distance you need to move while working.

This is an important point. Especially in Metod kitchens, which often use standard dimensions, swivel or lazy Susan trays significantly improve corner cabinet usability. However, I recommend using these components only when there is enough interior space, as otherwise they can quickly become overloaded and cluttered.

In practice, simply try out which arrangement works best. Small adjustments, such as placing waste sorting directly at the sink or planning toe-kick drawers for rarely used appliances, can make a difference.
