Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of optimizing the available storage space in my IKEA Metod tall cabinets as effectively as possible. Since these cabinets in the kitchen often need to store not only kitchen appliances but also groceries and other items, the question is how to make the best use of the usable space. I am especially interested in tips and tricks for selecting and customizing interior fittings, such as shelves, drawers, or inserts, as the standard solutions often do not meet my needs.
How do you organize your Metod tall cabinets to expand the storage space in a flexible and functional way? Are there any proven methods, special accessories, or DIY solutions that work well?
Looking forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Regarding space optimization in Metod tall cabinets, there are often underestimated factors:
- Installation of pull-out drawers with full extension for easy access.
- Use of adjustable shelves to arrange the space flexibly.
- Addition of accessories such as plate holders or spice racks that can be mounted directly on the cabinet door.
In general, IKEA accessories are recommended since they are precisely matched to the cabinet dimensions. External products can be interesting but often require more effort to adjust and install. Investing in IKEA’s own accessories is more sensible in the long run.

Are there such pull-outs available outside of IKEA that are compatible with Metod, or should I focus on IKEA’s own accessories?

As a rule, IKEA accessories are recommended because they fit the cabinet dimensions exactly.Questionable. IKEA’s standard dimensions make sense for measurements, but the materials and design do not always allow for maximum load capacity or optimal space utilization.
I wonder if modular, universal systems might be a better solution, even though they require some adjustments.
Does anyone have comparison experience between standard IKEA and third-party accessories regarding load capacity and practical usability?
In my experience, the original IKEA systems offer the best fit and ensure easy installation.
Regarding load limits: IKEA's top drawer systems are sufficiently sturdy for household use.
Third-party accessories can be more flexible but require careful planning and often additional brackets.
I would recommend making the decision based on the weight and size of the stored items.

Since Metod is well structured due to its grid system, combining IKEA components with modular inserts seems quite feasible. For example, a basic IKEA shelving unit paired with customizable boxes or organizer systems.
Do you have any examples of how such a combination has been practically implemented?
