Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the task of optimizing my Ikea Pax wardrobe for use as a dressing wardrobe. I don’t want to stick with the standard layout but rather incorporate custom solutions tailored for different types of clothing and accessories. I am especially interested in how to best adapt the interior fittings to my needs—that is, which inserts, accessories, or modifications provide the most benefit to create order and clarity while remaining flexible enough for changing wardrobes.

Additionally, it would be helpful to know how to organize storage efficiently and space-saving for various clothing items like trousers, shirts, shoes, and smaller items such as belts or jewelry.

What practical experiences have you had? What has proven effective, and what is less worthwhile? Are there materials or brands that integrate well with the Ikea system?

I look forward to your tips and suggestions—thanks in advance!

Basically, you should use clothes rods at different heights: lower for pants, higher for shirts and jackets.

Additionally, I recommend drawers for accessories and several adjustable shelves that can be moved flexibly.

Use shoe racks or specially designed inserts from Ikea.

Hello,

to make the best use of the Ikea Pax as a walk-in closet, I recommend the following approach in three steps:

- First, plan the interior layout: decide how many clothes rails you need and at what height. 90 cm (35 inches) works well for pants, 150 cm (59 inches) for shirts or jackets.

- Use drawers to neatly store smaller accessories like belts, jewelry, or underwear. Drawers with dividers are especially useful here.

- Complete the setup with shelf inserts and pull-out trays for shoes. Pull-out inserts are particularly practical because you can easily slide them out to keep everything visible.

A common mistake is choosing too many fixed components. Ikea offers flexible systems that can be adjusted as needed. Therefore, I recommend starting with a basic frame and adding fittings later if necessary.

Regarding materials: Ikea’s own inserts are usually sturdy enough. For special requirements, an additional wooden shelf might be beneficial.

I hope this structured overview helps you.

I think this is an important point. However, I recommend critically considering whether the Ikea drawers are suitable for high-quality jewelry storage. Often, they lack padding or specialized compartments to prevent scratching. In such cases, it’s worth investing in separate inserts or systems to place inside the drawers.

For shoe racks, I advise paying close attention to the depth of the PAX wardrobe. Frequently, standard racks are ordered too deep, causing the door not to close properly or the storage space not to be used optimally. Measuring is always worthwhile here, especially when considering custom alternatives.

Regarding flexibility: The PAX wardrobe is generally very adaptable, but the options for later modifications are more limited if you commit firmly to built-in fittings. Therefore, I would recommend choosing a as universal an interior as possible.

What do you think about combining Ikea components with custom-made elements, such as your own wooden shelves or specially crafted jewelry boxes? Is the extra effort worthwhile?
