Hello everyone, I am currently working with my Ikea Platsa furniture and have noticed that after some time it feels a bit unstable, even though it was assembled correctly. My question is: How can I keep Ikea PLATSA furniture stable for a long time without making major structural changes? Are there any specific tips for readjustment, maintenance, or additional stabilization methods that make sense? I especially want to avoid the modules starting to wobble or warp over time. Thanks for your experiences and recommendations!

Hello Soraplo, your concern is completely understandable, especially with a modular system like PLATSA. It is important to regularly check the furniture for any loose connections and tighten the screws. Floor supports and brackets, in particular, can loosen over time. Also, check if the furniture stands level, as even slight unevenness in the floor can cause instability.

Another recommendation: always use the correct screwdriver for assembly to avoid damaging the screws. For heavier setups, additional corner brackets can be installed in the rear corners, which Ikea does not provide, to significantly increase stability.

Regarding maintenance: avoid strong mechanical stress on the joints and frequent changes in the orientation of individual modules. If you need more details, I am happy to help!

Hello Soraplo,

I’d like to go a bit more into the technical details to provide you with a comprehensive solution. PLATSA is a relatively flexible and simply designed furniture system, but the joints often loosen due to frequent movement or stress. Here are a few points you should keep in mind:

- The connecting fittings (cam locks) should be tightened without over-torquing, as overtightening can damage or strip the threaded holes.
- Check all connections regularly, especially on movable parts like doors or drawers, since repeated stress often causes initial instability there.
- If the furniture is placed on an uneven floor, adjustable feet or small shims can help distribute the load evenly.

It would also be helpful to know how the furniture is positioned: Is it freestanding, placed against a wall, or possibly screwed together? Additional wall mounting (using the recommended IKEA wall brackets) significantly increases stability and can completely prevent wobbling.

If you like, I can also explain how to reinforce individual modules with additional wooden dowels or brackets if needed – this adds a lot of stability and is usually unobtrusive.

I think the whole discussion about ‘long-term stability’ with PLATSA is a bit exaggerated. Obviously, the system is designed for flexibility, not for permanence, so many people expect too much from this furniture.

Honestly: you want stability without structural changes? Then your best bet is to avoid overloading the modules. This furniture is more suited for lightweight decor or light clothing, not for extremely heavy storage. Personally, I don’t recommend modifying this kind of furniture. It’s better to choose a different system that is designed to be more durable from the start.

Hey, I think that’s exactly what makes PLATSA great: it’s affordable and flexible! With a few simple tips, you can make it really stable 😊.

In my experience, stability often comes down to tightening everything properly and aligning it carefully. At the points where the modules are screwed together, applying a bit of glue stick on the dowels helps give extra grip. It’s also important to only tighten the screws once everything is perfectly aligned, otherwise the system can warp.

And: I would definitely never skip the wall mounting – it adds so much security!

So, keep at it and don’t dismiss it too quickly, there’s really a lot you can get out of it.

When it comes to “How do I keep Ikea PLATSA furniture stable for a long time?” I think the main thing is to enjoy the process of furnishing. Of course, extra stability is great, but if it gets too complicated, you quickly lose your flow. My advice: just occasionally check if any screws are loose and tighten them. You can also apply a little oil to the hinges to keep their movement smooth.

Exactly! And if you brighten it up with a nice plant, it not only looks stable but also cozy 😉.
