Hello everyone, I recently bought the Metod kitchen cabinets from Ikea and wanted to install the drawers. Unfortunately, my drawers don’t slide very smoothly and often feel stiff or catch when opening and closing.
My specific question is: How do I install the Ikea Metod drawers so that they run smoothly and without resistance? I am using the included Blum drawer slides, but the result is rather suboptimal. Maybe you have tips on proper alignment, adjustment, or any installation tricks? Information about lubricants or settings on the slides would also be very helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Not complicated at all: place the rails closely along the back side of the cabinet panel and check if they are truly aligned front to back at the same height. Hold a small spirit level on the side, and then you’re safe.
I usually do this with my smartphone as well, but I test the function first in a corner against a real spirit level. If there’s no major deviation, it’s usually fine.
And I admit, the feel of a smoothly running Metod drawer slide is almost meditative 😄 So keep at it, you’ll get there!

One more tip for installation: use the adjustment options on the drawer slides, especially the small side screws. This allows you to align the drawer front and the slide perfectly, preventing friction.
This often saves the most effort and makes the drawer operate smoothly and effortlessly.

Guys, don’t forget not to install the drawers too deep. If they rub against the front edge or the cabinet, it’s easy to overlook. It’s better to leave a gap of 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 inches), that can work wonders!
Also, if the drawer is really hard to open, there’s often a simple trick to help: just pull the drawer out completely, lift it slightly, and reinsert it at a slight angle. This automatically aligns many things.

Thanks to everyone for the many tips! To summarize, my approach now is as follows:
- Precisely align the drawer slides using a spirit level (real tool)
- Ensure the drawer screws are properly tightened
- Use silicone spray, not WD-40
- Adjust the screws for fine-tuning the drawer fit
- Insert the drawer gently, possibly lifting slightly
- Leave enough clearance between the drawer front and the cabinet
- Avoid loading drawers heavily immediately after installation
If I follow this, the movement should improve significantly! If anyone has practical advice for the final fine-tuning, please share.

If anyone has practical tips for the final touches, feel free to share.Very important: After lubricating and installing the drawer, open and close it fully several times. This helps distribute the lubricant evenly and allows it to work into the slides properly.
