Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA Platsa system where some of the screws in the wood or connection points seem to be stripped or damaged. More specifically, the screws no longer hold securely because the wood threads are worn out. As a result, the shelf loses stability. My question is: Are there any proven methods or tricks to repair damaged screws or their fastening in IKEA Platsa without having to replace the entire wooden part? I am thinking of special repair kits, wood fillers, or possibly replacement parts from IKEA. It is important to me that the solution is not too complicated, lasts as long as possible, and allows me to continue using the shelf safely. I appreciate any tips as well as warnings about incorrect approaches!

Hey everyone, honestly: I ran into this problem with Platsa and just fixed the screw holes using an extra toothpick repair trick – it’s been holding perfectly for months. I think it’s easier than you might expect! Who would have thought toothpicks could be such handy heroes? ? Give it a try – with a bit of glue, it looks like new, almost magically.
Great topic! I’ll just say: keep your chin up, there are solutions! 😊 Especially with PLATSA, construction methods are often well standardized. Repair strips, wood glue, and patience will help you securely reassemble your furniture. Make sure not to overtighten the screws, as this can cause the wood to split. Good luck saving your screws!

Which repair inserts exactly do you mean? I would appreciate a more detailed explanation. Sure! I’m referring to so-called threaded inserts or repair inserts. These have an external thread that fits into the enlarged old hole, while the internal thread replicates the original screw thread exactly.
Usually, these inserts are installed in two steps:
- drilling out and cleaning the hole
- pressing in or gluing the insert
Make sure the repair inserts match the screw size for PLATSA (often M4 or M5).
They provide a very secure screw connection but are more complex than simple wood gluing methods. Ideal for heavy-duty applications or repeated screwing in the same spot.
If you are unsure, I recommend calling IKEA customer service, as they can often provide spare parts or repair advice.
