Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the correct way to fix Ikea Metod plinth boards and have a few questions. I have seen that there are different methods to attach the plinth boards – sometimes with clips, sometimes screwed or glued. My main question is: How do I properly and securely attach the Ikea Metod plinth boards so that they don’t later become loose or wobble? Which fixing materials are best suited for the material, and what is the cleanest way to install them? I would appreciate if someone could provide a detailed description of the recommended procedure, ideally with tips for preparation and installation of the boards. Thanks in advance!
One more question regarding installation: Are there specific screws or anchors recommended for attaching the clips to the Metod cabinets? Should I pay attention to the length or the material to avoid any damage? What is the best approach if the plinth area is uneven—that is, not perfectly flat toward the surface? Thanks in advance.
The short Spax screws that Ikea also supplies are usually sufficient for the clips. Length about 15-20 mm (0.6-0.8 inches) to prevent them from going through the back panel. You can correct any unevenness by reducing the screw pressure; alternatively, use small wooden dowels or plastic wedges to level it out.

I always make sure to place the clips in a way that compensates for minor unevenness where needed, for example by using thin wooden shims or felt pads placed under the clips. This way, everything stays level and doesn’t wobble.

Thank you for the many helpful tips! To summarize, I have noted the following:
- Always attach clips to the Metod cabinets themselves, not to the floor
- Use original screws or short Spax screws (about 15–20 mm (0.6–0.8 inches))
- Compensate for small unevenness with shims or spacers
- Avoid using construction adhesive due to the possibility of later disassembly
- Use plenty of fixing points; better too many than too few
If anyone has additional tips for installing corners or transitions of baseboards, I’m always glad to hear them. Otherwise, I’ll get started and may get back in touch if needed. Thanks to everyone!
