Hello everyone,

I have had a kitchen with matte IKEA Metod fronts for some time now and have noticed that cleaning them is quite different from conventional kitchen fronts. I am particularly interested in how to clean these matte fronts effectively without damaging the surface or leaving unpleasant streaks.

The goal is a thorough but gentle cleaning that removes both grease and water residues while preserving the matte finish and the texture of the surface.

Does anyone have experience with recommended cleaning products, methods, or any products to avoid? How do you handle heavy dirt in practice? Are there specific microfiber cloths that are suitable?

Thank you in advance for your tips and advice!

I always clean my matte Metod fronts using only a slightly damp microfiber cloth and a bit of dish soap. Do not use aggressive cleaners or abrasive agents! After wiping, go over them again with clean water and dry thoroughly to prevent streaks.

"I am particularly interested in how to best clean these matte fronts without damaging the surface."

This is a very important question. Especially with IKEA Metod fronts that have a matte finish or laminated surfaces, you should be careful because the matte surface is relatively sensitive to mechanical stress and aggressive cleaners.

In detail, I recommend the following procedure:

- Always start by gently removing dust and loose dirt with a dry microfiber cloth.
- For grease or sticky residues, use a microfiber cloth dampened with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap, wiping gently without rubbing too hard.
- Under no circumstances use abrasive cleaners, scratchy sponges, or solvents, as these can damage the matte coating.
- After cleaning, wipe again with clean water to remove any residue, as soap residues might leave visible marks.
- For drying, use a clean, lint-free cloth to avoid water spots and streaks.

If there are tougher stains, I would first test on a hidden corner or the back side whether a specialized plastic cleaner without alcohol and solvents does not harm the surface.

What exactly do your stains look like? Maybe I can provide tips for targeted cleaning products.

Exactly. I would like to add that with matte fronts, two common mistakes should generally be avoided:

- Never scrub with strong pressure, as this can damage the matte finish.
- Never spray cleaning sprays directly onto the surface; always apply them to the cloth first.

For maintenance after cleaning, you can occasionally use a lightly dampened microfiber cloth without any cleaning agents. This refreshes the matte surface and removes fine dust.

There are also special care products for matte paints that leave a protective layer. However, these are not essential and are more relevant for heavily used kitchens.

My advice:
- Office or kitchen microfiber cloths with a fine texture (no coarse fibers)
- Warm water + mild dish soap
- No alcohol, no abrasives
- Gentle, circular motions

Hope this helps!
