Hello everyone,

I am looking for the best method to thoroughly clean matte IKEA Metod fronts without damaging the surface or affecting the matte finish. My fronts currently have some fingerprints, dust, and light dirt, and I want to clean them as gently as possible.

It would be helpful to know which cleaning products are suitable and which should be avoided, as well as the best way to wipe the fronts (e.g., microfiber cloth, sponge, soft cloth) and whether there are any special techniques to keep in mind.

If anyone has experience with matte fronts from IKEA, I would appreciate detailed tips. Thank you!

Hello Ronitan,

I can provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to best clean matte Metod fronts:

- Always start by using a dry, soft microfiber cloth to gently remove loose dust and fine dirt. This helps prevent scratches.

- For greasy and damp stains, lukewarm water with a mild dish soap solution is recommended. Never use harsh or alkaline cleaners, as they can damage the matte coating.

- Lightly dampen the microfiber cloth—do not soak it—to avoid water spots or swelling.

- For tougher stains, you can press the cloth a bit more firmly and rub gently, but do not use abrasive cleaners or rough sponges.

- After cleaning, be sure to wipe again with a dry, soft cloth to fully remove moisture and prevent streaks.

Summary: Use a soft microfiber cloth, lukewarm water with mild soap, wipe carefully, and polish dry.

Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, abrasives, alcohol, or acetone as they can ruin the matte surface.

If you have any further questions, I’m happy to help!

Absolutely right! I once accidentally sprayed my Metod cabinet with a strong glass cleaner – afterward, the front looked polished and the matte finish was gone 🙈. Since then, I only use mild dish soap and a soft microfiber cloth.

A little tip from me: It’s best to clean right after cooking, before grease sets in. Also, don’t use hot water, as it can stress the surface.

Good luck with cleaning – the fronts will thank you 😊

In addition to the points already mentioned:

- Matte IKEA Metod fronts are usually made of melamine-coated particleboard or MDF with a specially treated surface. While this surface is durable, it is chemically sensitive.

- Therefore, avoid abrasive cleaners, alcohol-based cleaners, aggressive solvents, or chlorine-containing substances.

- Microfiber cloths are ideal due to their gentle cleaning action, as they absorb dirt instead of rubbing it around.

- For cleaning, soap water or specially formulated, pH-neutral kitchen cleaners that leave no residue are sufficient.

- After cleaning, the surface must be completely dried to prevent stress damage.

- It is not recommended to regularly treat the fronts with polishes or wax concentrates, as these can reduce the matte effect.

These guidelines are based on material and product specifications from IKEA materials.
